Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Conflicted

I am thinking of going back to what I majored in which is a different field but it literally pays half of what I make at allstate. I'm torn if I should leave or not. Allstate just doesn't excite me. My old field was so fun and exciting but the pay was just low. I don't know if I should stay at allstate getting paid well but bored or go back to a low paying job but loving the job

What gives you more happiness: fun and excitement for 40 hours a week or the financial freedom you have now?

You are lucky to know what you love and to have the skills to do it. Can you survive on the lower salary? Is there any room for advancement in that career?

You can switch fields now and change your mind later and switch again. And again.

If you don’t have kids, mortgage and a car payment do what you have a passion for . Make sure you have something lined up first

That depends on your life circumstances. I once had a job before this one where I made less than half my salary. That was the best job I ever had, but it was before kids and all the expenses that came with that. I often regret leaving there, but I had to for the financial security. If you can afford to, choose happiness.
