Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Temporary workforce

With the obvious shortcomings of our hiring system and inability to fill our current open jobs, our location and many others in the district have turned to temporary staffing agencies. The crews we have had so far have been fairly hard working but she i ask them if the want to apply for permanent positions, not only are they being paid more base from temp agency but many are still collecting unemployment! How can we fill jobs while Macy’s is subcontracting out to help fill our weekly workload hours??? Most likely getting a tax kickback without paying an hourly wage as well!!!

I’m in Miami and from what I am understanding they raised the rate from $9 to $11. I can’t believe someone received millions in a bonus for this disaster hiring system. Wait, it’s exactly the thing Macy’s would do.

Yeah these people make $16 an hour and of course they want to leave that and come to Macy’s for $9. Macy’s knows how to attract new employees.

Most likely they can stu claim UI because the job is temporary.

You’d think Macy’s would want to pay living wages Instead of paying a temp agency for a bandage.

The new hiring system is a huge part of the problem. It used to be you could hire someone on the spot if they passed the background check. Now there's a back and forth process with emails. By the time some one gets an offer of employment they have moved on. And this new SVP of HR got a $3 million bonus for this. And starting wages are well below what other companies are offering. They finally raised it to $13 an hour and that is still low in New England.

All the temp workers can do is support work, can't touch the registers. But if you get a few good ones they can recover the hard shopped building and make it presentable again. They have to have a lot of supervision, though.

Temp workers probably get the day shifts and the regular employees get the closing shifts.

Just goes to prove macys has the stores running just the way they want them. Everything is set up so they will run with outside inexperienced labor with no retail experience. Macys does not value knowledgeable employees. Macy's is probably getting government assistance for using these work forces. They should take it a step further and have temp upper management. Then it might become a professional company again.

We need help at my store to wait on customers and be able to make the following required goals that sales associates have to make: sales, credit or bronze enrollment, presales, make every customer a client, call or text existing clients for more sales, and ask customers to give a 10 when they do an emailed survey.

We had temp help the last two weekends and they were absolutely horrible. I’m grateful that they are trying to help us but this was a total waste of money.

Our store has the temp staff doing mostly support work. Processing truck, markdowns, recovery.

The store that I work in needs temp workers. They can do the closing shifts that I always have to do.

We have multiple temps-all in red aprons-working recovery in our DFW stores. Lots of them.

I know in some stores in Tennessee, not sure how many, they used temps. Since the temp workers are just temp, obviously they are not registered trained, so they only did recovery their entire shifts.

What district is this? What position are they working?

Not sure how the temps are getting unemployment if they are working, unless they work the bare minimum to still collect part unemployment. As far as Macy's goes, they still come out on top because they are saving $, so to speak, when they have so many open positions. So by hiring temps, even though they are paying higher rate, they don't have to pay benefits.
