Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Leaving soon

I plan on giving my notice soon… how does one go about transferring their 401k? Do I contact HR or go through the company the 401k is through? I think it’s fidelity.

Thank you to everyone that has answered. I am going to a competitor and wondered if I could get this changed without telling them where I’m going.. I want to serve a two weeks. Thanks

You would contact Allstate benefits and choose the 401k option. Have the name of the investment firm and account #, if you have more than one, to role it over to. They have most of the larger firms already in their system. It’s a quick transaction.

Call HR benefit center and provide your 401K account from Fidelity and your monies will appear to your Fidelity account in 3 to 5 business days. I know that Allstate can transfer (wire funds) with this company; however, some others Allstate will have to send a check and that can take 7 to 10 business days.

Bypass HR, and just go straight to the 401k company.

I think it’s a good place to ask if you don’t want to share where you’re going.

You really think this is the appropriate forum for this question? Call HR/Benefits, they'll walk you through everything.
