Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The lowest performers will not be impacted

There are a few employees I know who managed to avoid every single layoff so far despite doing the bare minimum and getting away with it because their noses are always brown. What are the chances they'll be among those affected by the announced cuts? None, for the same reason. We'll lose some good folks and have these leeches left - all in the name of performance improvement. Irony, thy name is Exxon.

Dear Ex-Clinton2. I think you’re right - I think I mis-counted the names of the different CL’s, so they were CL30 instead of CL31. But my pony still stands. These 2 individuals got to where they were by riding on the backs of other people and likely claiming that work for themselves in their performance reviews. There’s no way they deserved to be ranked or promoted so highly, by virtue of their (lack of) achievements and technical knowledge.

Dear ex-Clinton: This is so oddly specific that I think I know who you are, and who they are. This is a violation of the lax policy of this web site LOL. BTW, no, they were not CL31, please go back and double check your facts.

I personally know of 2 people in EMRE Lubes - both retired in 2019 - who got to CL31 on the Technical Ladder, despite being completely useless, technically. Seriously - despite being a lowly CL26, I regularly had to correct (or advise) them on basic chemistry …. and they were supposed to be Chemists !

So how the heck did they manage to get to such lofty positions ? Well, for sure, being known by the right people must have been part of it. But also claiming the credit for other people’s contributions was a major factor, as I know I gave them both a lot of information and answered a lot of questions over the years, and never found out what they did with it.

One of them was most certainly a beneficiary of the company’s I&D policies. I - and everyone else in the Lubes division knew that all she did in her last 10 years was to become increasingly involved in ERG’s (WIN, IAGTE, PRIDE, Mentoring, etc.) at the expense of actually doing any work. For the last 4 years, that really is all she did - attend ERG meetings, go to offsite “female empowerment” conferences (e.g. Women in Engineering) or PRIDE-related conferences or spend her time mentoring young female staff. Yet during those last 10 years, she was promoted twice and therefore must have been ranked highly, despite having no technical contributions to her name (unless she lied on her EADS).

Kool-aid drinking, brown nosing, do nothing upward managing sunflowers will always survive at ExxonMobil. In fact, 90% of our Executives and above fit this description. And this is probably the single largest reason our company is going down in flames.
