Posting of LL6 positions on JOL

We heard two years ago (by leadership) all LL6 positions would be posted to JOL for equal opportunity, and I rarely see this happening. Many are getting promoted (happens a lot in purchasing) without having to interview/jobs being posted). Is this happening in other departments as well?

I think JOL is just a formality these days. Plus, I hear there are HR equity programs in place for promotions, so anyone who isn’t BIPOC probably shouldn’t waste their time applying anyway.

Yes most of the LL6 job postings are just there to satisfy HR and legal. In fact as a LL6 I was asked to apply and interview for lateral LL6 job postings to help satisfy quotas when they didn’t get any applicants. The drill was you phoned in the interview so that the LL5s doing the interviewing could select the favored candidate for promotion. Once I decided not to follow the script and blew the LL5s away at the interview. This put the hiring LL5 in a spot as the interviewing LL5s had a different recommendation for him than he wanted. I was asked by the LL5 to remove my name from consideration so that he could promote his candidate. I knew this was a tell not an ask. This is the Ford drill, it has been that way for ages.

What does JOL stand for?

The Whisper Campaign is real. I can safely say that after 20+ years at Ford, I have only applied for 1 job on JOL. I didn't get it because there already was a chosen one. Every other position I've had at Ford, I was asked to join the team. On a couple rare occasions I asked to join the team if it is something I wanted to do.

Ford is just like middle school. Not high school as it isn't that mature. Popularity is the name of the game for everything. You don't need to know a damn thing, just be popular and make your manager feel like a special little prince or princess. That is why we never get better and have endless quality problems. These people then crawl up the ladder and contribute forever to the know nothing, do nothing management we have. It is no wonder why the high performers just get beaten down seeing the hopelessness of their efforts and see how they can dial down their performance 75% and still look good because so many of management are literally id--ts because technical excellence is not a promotion requirement.

The Ford Whisper to get ahead. Thanks for sharing. Popularity over Performance? How you fit trumps how you work and results you achieve.

In my years at Ford I have moved to new positions and been promoted. Each time someone contacted me prior to posting the position to see if I was interested in applying. One manager even shared with me that applying for positions that I randomly found on JOL might not end well. He said the person posting the position already knows who they want to select or the position is so undesirable that they couldn’t find anyone interested through their whisper campaign.

Posting LL6 spots is recommended but not yet required in many places.

Yes it is happening in both Conway and EPLM organizations. People getting promoted without positions being posted. Most are underrepresented minorities.

Also noticing the trend to post the job AFTER the prime candidate has been identified. So technically they did post it, but the outcome was already known and there is not a fair chance for others to be considered. They are essentially used to complete the interview requirements.

Shady as ever.

They need to interview 3 candidates per HR policy. Two throwaways and the person destined to get the job.

Purchasing has their own rules. Popularity valued over performance.

Agree with you poster below - this happened to a friend of mine. Was all stoked to get an interview for a promo but then didnt get the job and it was given to a “chosen” one. Everyone knew this person was going to get the promo apparently, even though the position was on JOL. Personally, I’d rather just have them pick the person they wanna pick vs having to go through interviews and have no chance, thinking I have a chance.

For the majority of the time jobs need to be posted for legal reasons whether it's an interior or exterior job posting for the company. Companies usually already know who they want to hire so the job posting is just a formality. The job may also include an interview quota (diversity) so anyone who is not the 'chosen one' is wasting their time and won't even know it.
