Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Is it really that bad?

I know of at least a few people in my BU that are looking to find other opportunities. They claim there is no direction within the company, no transparency and so on. I don’t see it myself but then again I have been here for only 2 years. Then I come here and read all these posts and I have to wonder, are they from disgruntled employees or am I just blind to the way things really are?

Keep in mind, nothing is ever as good or as bad as it seems.

Agreed, it's been terrible for so long. All the wrong people are in charge. IMO we have bottomed out. But guess what? We're still here, coasting off the momentum of decades of great creativity and leadership. Nothing will happen quickly, but my take is that there is nowhere to go but up. Hang in there, now it's a Survivor game to outwit and outlast RD and YK. Both have promising futures in the food service industry.

Maybe Margo Georgiades can be convinced to come back for $31 million a year and imbue her considerable wisdom upon us once again. She's so good, they already made her into a toy: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/lord-farquaad-13-plush-shrek-526402711

It's pretty bad, but you know what? It's been that way for a long time. And there are a lot of people who have stuck it out, made some good money, and put some away for their future. If you're happy, and the problems aren't affecting you, then I say roll with it and build up your resume if you can. If it starts affecting you, then that is when you want to take a hard look at where you are.

I’m my opinion it’s relative. Every big company has the same problems albeit in different amounts. For instance, top heavy, lack of clear direction or transparency - I’ve heard this almost at every company I’ve worked at. However Mattel did/does have an extraordinary problem with this sometimes (hello 4 CEOs in the last decade). But you sort of have to take the good with the bad. I have perhaps the wrong assumption that the loudest complainers haven’t worked at a lot of other big companies. Mattel’s not perfect but they’re not unique in their faults either. Might just depend on what’s the most important thing about a company for you.
