I worked for Ford for 20 years the way the work is split into small sections makes you unsuitable for most small firms. I am now back working as a Classic car Technician after a hands off office job. I Retire in six years as now 60 but will see once there.

Probably you know no one is stopping you from at least putting in some resumes and networking while you still have a job. You can do this to get a feel as to what is going on and who knows you might be persuaded to leave Ford or not. usually people who ask this question either have mediocre skills or lack confidence. If your skills are lacking looking at what jobs are out there will get you an idea of what skills you need if you lack confidence you won't get confident by staying comfortable.

What a superficial, post. What career field? It obviously depends on your skillset. You can always get a job somewhere. Wendy's is hiring near my house and is paying $14-$16 per hour.
What do you do

Q: Has anybody been successful in finding a position outside of Ford?
A: Yes, definitely more than 1 person. Irrespective of what people say here, it is not true that Ford can turn 100% of the smart new hires into duffers - some do slip through the cracks. Maybe 99% is the correct number.

I'll let you decide if this counts:

I'm a career IT guy - COBOL, JCL, etc.... My career started in 1998 and as much as I desired to remain at one job for my entire career, it never worked out. I have left every job either by being laid-off or leaving due to sh!tty management or work environment.

I was working remote in Michigan before remote was cool. ;D (I was allowed to do so to help care for an ailing parent.) My company also let me know that they could revoke remote work at any time so I jumped at a position at Ford. I was there for less than 2 years before being part of the SRD in May, 2019.

I got a new job in a support role in Missouri. It paid enough to allow me to keep my home in Michigan. I was under a 1 year contract and walked away after that year. It was the worst job in IT I ever had. I planned my escape after 3 months seeing how bad the job was. I squirreled away $40k knowing I was walking away with a good chance of not having an immediate job.

After 6 months of walking away, I now have one of my favorite jobs while remaining in SE Michigan. The job works to my strengths and I am loving it. So yes, there is success in a career outside of Ford and in the area. But, the job market for IT professionals is tight in the area.

There are positions out there - but many I have heard say that pay elsewhere is an issue.

I know many are looking, it'd be nice to know how many have been successful.
