Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How convenient

Supposedly only the low performers will be affected. But what happens when there are no poor performers on a team? Will the managers be forced to lie on performance reviews? Will they use the "eeny, meeny, miny, moe" method to select who they're going to sc--w over and downgrade their review? This process has been and will remain flawed and open to misuse, now more than ever.

And then one day you wake up and have no more friends and realize the cool kids were actually the ones leaving.

It's kind of like each year one of our friends will suddenly become uncool and will be kicked out of our circle.

It's basically supervisors and managers pick each year who they don't like, and build a case with each minor flaw or error. Make the employee feel like $#!+ when presented with PIP option, and note they sign away their legal rights by resigning via PIL. It's a shame game, with no repercussions for those driving the harassment

You'll have to do something amazing every year, otherwise you WILL end up in the bottom two quintiles. Even if you have 1-2 great achievements, that will just bump you up to middle tier.

It is relative assessment so someone is always low performing relative to the others unless all performance is equal which it isn’t. So says HR. That is the system. If you can’t live with it join us and start looking for a new job.

If you are not low in ranking Exxon’s forced ranking system will drop you in the next couple of years. That is how the system works. Plenty of good workers were at the bottom.

They will look at everyone on the team and get rid of those with the lowest scores of those high performing people left. They want to cut staff but not pay severance or have employees draw unemployment. Sounds like they need to be cutting 10% of the execs. Mo--ns.

OP I'll give you a hint. They know the answers in advance and employees, being human, will always have some flaw or error they can point to for justification, however minor it may be.
