Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Going back to the office is a mistake

Having us go back to the office setting saying its “safe if vaccinated” is totally rubbish. Our office space is normally a cesspool of germs because if 1 person gets sick, everyone gets sick. The vaccine is only supposed to be effective 3-6 months anyway and according to The CDC.gov website “people can still get sick and possibly spread COVID-19 to others after being fully vaccinated, CDC recommends people continue to take everyday actions to protect themselves and others, like wearing a mask, maintaining an appropriate distance from others, avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces, and washing hands often.” Making us go back to the office, vaccinated or not, is wrong. We’ve proven 100% work from home can be done.

@abje+1bhiJJCS sums it up perfectly. There is no need for us to go back to the office other than the whim of those on top.

I spoke to a few directors and the general consensus is that if they don't maintain some semblance of WFH a lot of their key employees will start leaving. People who have been here for years and know the systems in and out. It sounds like the people against WFH are just some key people in leadership. Companies need to adapt to the times and those who don't will fall behind and people will leave for other companies that offer these kind of benefits. Should be an interesting year, i don't expect major layoffs as people will just leave by themselves.

"All jobs from home are part time" said the mo--n who takes 8 hours to do what I can do in 2. Why should I have to pay the smart tax and do four times what d-mb-d-mb can do, for the same salary? Work from home just levels the playing field so that the intelligent, productive people can collect their check for the BS expected of them, and get back to focusing on what's actually important in life. Hopefully the d-mb-d-mbs who love playing office politics (lacking other talents) go back to the office and the rest can keep working the way that makes sense.

I agree. Taking kids here and there, talking with friends ...on and on. Millennial brats do not like being told what to do. Pandemic best thing that ever happened to these self absorbed jerks

Of course they all want to work from home. I assembling on and out of their driveways all day. Yoga, grocery shopping. All jobs from home are part time

Get a life. What are you going to do….live in a bubble and afraid of a cold the rest of your life? These people must be hermits….anti-social. Sad to see our country coming to this. But I bet you aren’t afraid to go on vacation or attend a sporting event. Or maybe if you go back to the office you won’t get all your daily errands done! I feel for all the building owners.

Going back into the office ignores the progress we made in the almost 18 months of remote work. Either that, or it is a strategic way to reduce numbers without a layoff.

As far as being an example, that's a moot point. If I'm going to buy a car and the salesperson doesn't drive the same make, that doesn't effect my decision. Adaptation is the key. Lean into WFH solutions and products.

The world has changed. Adapt. No reason people need to be tied to a desk 40 hours a week in an office.

If our business relies on others going back into office, I think we should be a leader in the efforts showing it can be done.
