I've been here for 25 years. When I just started I was satisfied with most things regarding work and I enjoyed my job. Over the years that changed gradually, and now I'm at the point where I hate my job and everything about it. I have no intention of leaving, though. I'm too scared of what I might run into if I leave. This is literally the case of "better the devil you know" for me. If I was younger I would probably think a different way but as it is, I'm stuck here. My only way out is early retirement, and I will be gone as soon as I can make it work.

Exactly! You know what you can & cannot do. I too have been here over 3 decades, but it was awesome in the beginning. I've moved around in different areas of IT. Thought I was making OK money until you hear stories of others, but with 7 weeks of paid vacation, why would I leave? There are so many departments and jobs that you should at least try something different before leaving permanently. So much free training & other programs Allstate offers its employees and I can work from home now full-time! Most other companies don't have a pension either that I am thankful I'll be getting. I would love to be offered a package, but until then, I'll persevere.
@1czi And what exactly do you say we all do about it? Quitting is what they want and anything else we try to do they will just fire us anyways.
I can stick it out for a few more years. No one is going to hire me at 59. Got a nice 401k and pension built up. The youngsters need to do best for them as they have opportunities and the world is theirs.
People willing to stick and take the abuse are exactly why they can abuse all of us.
Ok gramps
You’re the kind of employee they love, so afraid of your own shadow that they get away with treating you like sh-t and you say thank you sir may I have another!
Save here. Just too much claims work they’ve been piling on us since the layoffs last year. I’ve seen over 20 of my coworkers quit due to the stress and long hours.
Life is too shirt to be unhappy 10 plus hours of every workday…
That is where I'm at myself. 56 years old with almost three decades in this company. Maybe I was a fool for not getting out sooner but in reality up until I about two years ago I was quite happy working here. It is quite easy for someone in their 20's or 30's to preach about moving on and there being plenty of jobs out there. That is true for them...not for us. Once you hit mid 40's on the chances of easily finding a new job shrinks considerably. Plus as you said many places are not all that much better. I hear many of the same horror stories from peers that moved on to other insurance companies and outside the insurance industry too. At this point I would rather take my chances here than starting over somewhere else at my age. I still have a chance at a year's severance and maybe early retirement here as they did offer that to some in the layoffs last year. I'm sorry but this old dog is too old and too tired to learn new tricks outside of this company. I'll do whatever new and use whatever new systems they want gladly but I am not leaving.
