Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Think twice before leaving!

Guys,
I worked as a contractor for EM, 10 yrs. happily without any stress, due to pandemic few months back I let go, well, then I started job hunting and worked in 5 companies, I changed companies myself, in my personal experience all these 5 companies - no company even is closer to EM in perspective of working atmosphere, process, flexibility, supervisors(I worked under 4 sup. in EM), cooperation, encouragement, work-life balance, giving a chance to learn new things, no discriminations among employee n contractor, friendly folks, its really awesome / wonderful company, but I don't have much idea on top management n their decisions because I always stick to my desk and dedicated to my work I never get into that kind of topics/discussions.

But EMIT jobs are very risky because of offshore, sending every single piece of IT work, all the projects to off shore so my advise(Think twice before leaving!) is NOT applicable to EMIT teams

All this is personal experience

Good luck

IT here from another big oil company. So basically are you saying they are outsourcing IT jobs so don't come to Exxon for an IT job? I keep seeing linkedin people announcing that they are leaving the company left and right and I'm not even connected to them directly which is why I came here to see whats going on.

EMIT contractor worse after leaving EM? I really don't think EMCO pays well, but IT is a wide range field from minimum wage techs to jobs with typical salaries that range from $75k-250k. Better off will depend if your skill set places you at minimum wage or $250k or in between. This also depends on willingness to relocate. This is also why some writing the IT purview bristle at all the EM BS. They know they could make more outside and would be actually appreciated on the outside. They've likely worked for other companies and have been treated reasonably on the outside. I recently interviewed for a good fit job at a university, but the University pay was not competitive. When I left Exxon as an employee, I took a substantial hit to salary, but my new salary still supports a family. I've been working towards higher income Jones of which I'm capable, but after 10 years at EM, and 12 outside EM, I wonder if I should really chase these because my rollover from 22 years of work plays the largest part of whether I'll have enough money at retirement. If you can earn crazy money for 22 years, you won't need to invest later.

Most of my friends that quit XOM at mid career also, quit 2 or 3 more jobs to eventually land in a great job fit and career success. IF you quit, just remember that you are probably committing to a job hopping path to success. This means INSECURITY. Many of the new companies are very insecure (one dry ho-e from bankruptcy). Several reservoir engineers I know have been abruptly fired when the location of investment closed shop (no severance). Most of my friends were able to jump into better jobs with each move (XOM on your resume will never hurt you in the oil business because you were carefully vetted and well trained on big projects.

You are a management representative or a broker hired by management. You definitely have serious problems as you were fired by 5 companies within couple of months. As you couldn’t find incompetent manager like Exxon in other companies, you couldn’t continue there. You definitely need a d-mb boss for your regular work based on your made up story..

By the way this is an employee layoff forum. A contractor shouldn’t have any business on this forum. Exxon Management always consider contractor a third class citizen ( I personally don’t like that).

Now tell your d-mb Exxon contact to learn some leadership rather than hiring an a-s agent like you.

why think twice when your neurons help you to think once?

Key word here unfortunately is Contractor.
I can see how that can skew things.
good luck, feller. shut up and dribble, as they say.

Disagree and I have seen inside other companies. No company is perfect. Each has its pros & cons.

I question the credibility of the OP. I have been working for XOM for 17 years and know first hand that the rosy pic the OP is painting is not all that true. Smells a troll who hasn't worked for XOM, and if you did as a contractor you can speak for employee experiences either.

Remember the movie Groundhog Day? If you want to progress in the company, life starts to feel a little like Groundhog Day. You grow and build experience, but nothing around you changes. You fix people’s mistakes, but they don’t remember. They immediately reset into the past versions of themselves.

So yes, could see how it it fine to be a contractor. If you are trying to change things for the better, it is slow and infuriating.

Bahaaa.. HR Troll trying to as they say “turn the ship around”. Yet another one of those wonderful gimmicks and games they play with employees in order to gain mind control. Cut the toxic managers!!! Problem solved. Ge-z. Most folks are at EM for the money. We already know how to deal with Toxic work environments.

Yes be in a company that let you go and kept you as a contractor for 10 years

Exxon is great when the pigs at mid and upper management are happy with their bonus. If the dividends aren't threatened and company profits are good, they yeah. Everything can be looked over and work is stress free. But now, since poor leadership is being displayed on a changing landscape. The environment/culture at Exxon won't be the same for awhile

Always decide what is best for yourself and your family. Either leave or stay is your decision at the end
