Does anybody believe they are truly planning to reopen?
Barnes & Noble is closing in Preston Royal Village
The retailer couldn’t come to an agreement with the landlord and says it hopes to reopen in a nearby location.

We can't get any answers from anyone if we're going to close or downsize. I'm looking for a new job because we'll never pick up sales and I don't want to be unprepared for the bad news.

I've heard B&N will be closing most of it's larger stores. In some places where they are performing better, they'll be downsized to much smaller locations. Think: airport-like stores. I'd be looking for new jobs people, and fast! I am.
I figure they have nothing else better to do.
This post inspired me to call my local Barnes and order a large cafe order for my “meeting”.
Ordered lattes, espresso, 11 drinks in all.

I'm still waiting for the entire company to fold. All I see are employees standing around doing nothing or talking in groups, probably gossiping. Down with BN, Daunt, Riggio.
For fun I like to go in a couple local Barnes stores ( I don’t buy anything. Just mess with them) With all the newly hired part timers they don’t realize I used to work there . I’ll ask for books that don’t exist and they’re so clueless they don’t know. ( like Herman Melville’s book that came out last week. Stephen King’s Carrie sequel) I also call BN with lists of books. Have them put them on hold. I’ll tell them I’m from a school. How soon can they get me 75 copies of a book.

Any store with a large footprint will close. If you’re in one the remaining superstores, plan accordingly. They won’t prepare you and they won’t offer you a transfer, you will be fired and if they open a new, smaller store nearby, someone else will take that position. Find out when your stores lease is up. That’s all the warning you have.
Closed the Kingston, NY location. Used the e act wording about opening in a nearby location. Been months. No word.
