Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

Increasing incompetence?

I have friends who work in other companies in this industry and when we talk about the atmosphere in general, they also have remarks that it is amazing how much incompetence has taken hold in their companies as well.

Is there any logical explanation as to why there is more room here for mediocrities than for experts with experience? What is the logic? I really don't understand. Mediocrities ultimately cost more, I’m sure.

We're not rich enough to buy cheap things.

Many of the yards were set up so the area managers could visit various bars and brothels around the world. There was never any business case for wft wireline to be in yurop

As a TPI that made many visits to Weatherford and other companies i can tell you the answer, the job now is get gear out the door anyway possible, no delays, hook or crook just get it out, mediocrity breeds mediocrity, its a downward spiral staircase when no one is interested in quality, its the end of the month figures that count,

Saw a good many people get hired for or moved into positions that they just didn't have the experience or the ability for. It usually started when someone who couldn't break through into management at Halliburton or Schlumberger, or had broken through and been exposed as incompetent was brought on at Weatherford. They would then bring over their buddies to establish their empire of loyalists regardless of whether or not they were really suited for the positions they were filling. I assume this happens at all of the service companies to some extent. Weatherford was eaten up with it.

Incompetence comes from nepotism and there is a lot of that in service companies. Then when the service failure hits they blame everyone else. Its common
