Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Belk is HIRING!

"Love fashion, home and beauty? Join us for a store hiring event on June 12! Full and part time positions are available in all stores, and we are proud to offer flexible schedules, competitive pay and an associate discount. "

ROFLOA! Wow...this one is worthy of chuckle given all the angst, despair and despise shared here.

Though I will say the abrupt drop-off in posts and comments leads me to believe most of the buthurt folks or trolls have drifted away.

So what is it? Belk survives or perishes in the flames of so many other retailers?

Why hire going into the slowest time of the year? Can't they flex up the hours for existing staff? Guess not if some complain they have to work 6 or 7 days in a row since they can't read a schedule that starts and ends on a week's time of Sun-Sat. Or that so many are soooo stressed out by their jobs that they have become quivering jellyfish. No you still working have forced the comanpy's hand.

Yes retail work stinks! It stinks so bad it rates even below fast food. Fast food businesses that now pays wages of $13-15+ to start. So to complain about an industry that rates at the bottom of the barrel, about a company whose stores stink worse than the work climate. Tell us something we don't know.

So if you are in a store and can not get enough hours on which to survive, let alone a decent wage, respect, encouragement and leadership from above, stop complaining and get out cause Belk is hiring baby! Yes indeed hiring full and part time. Paying competitively. Offering flexible and accommodating schedules in a nurturing work environment too. You are replaceable and don't think you are not or are somehow that special to the firm.

As for the job ad and promises made...maybe some of you can join me as I ROFLOA!!!

This is a joke. There is no competitive pay, unless your a pet, and no flexible schedule. They put your schedule out 2 days prior to the next work week. Applicants beware

We've had applicants laugh and walk out when we make the compensation offer. McDonald's is hiring at $15 for god sake.

Same…we’ve been hiring for months, and the long time staff keeps leaving. We’ve had 2 applicants (both were hired). One came in for a day and never returned, the other gave it a week.

If you notice, the only companies suffering a “work shortage” are the companies not willing to compensate. There’s plenty of people looking for jobs…they’re just not taking cr-p ones anymore.

Our store is having problems getting applicants as well. HR sets up interviews and they cancel or just don't show. Then when we do hire.....they quit on their first day!

Actually Belk can't find workers. Stores are struggling to fill positions of people who have left. Belk is not an attractive company to work for at all. I am an HR associate, we have ZERO applications
