Re-entry

So…. How do we think mass re-entry is going to shake out at the Fido? Years of courting the younger millennial workforce about to backfire when everyone is forced back in?

Stories out there of other companies losing those employees who have gotten quite comfortable working from the couch when they tried to force people back.

ya, let's put different people in the same cube every day...great plan for a pandemic. If there were ever a time for a dedicated space, this is it.

Don't forget that Fidelity spent the past 5 years and tens of millions of dollars converting the traditional 'cubicle farms' into 'open concept' agile space. The problem now is that this open concept office layout has to be modified because of COVID. I've heard they are going to try a 'hoteling approach' where you have to sign up to use a cubicle. They did this before with their Go Work Centers but that was on a limited capacity basis. Stay tuned!

Force people back in even though the company has had a fantastic year with everyone working from home. Provide employees who were there for you during a pandemic with less flexibility even though the company was successful with that flexibility. Do this during a time the company is trying to attract women and there is a hot flexible job market. Sounds like an idea a bunch of old micro managers came up with.

Why is going back to your job you were hired to do a big deal? Leave if you don’t like it. Trust me on this—you are not irreplaceable. Im one of the lucky ones who has been going IN to the office the entire time. Get over yourselves. Let’s get on with our lives.

I really just want them to finalize the re-entry plans soon. It seems like most other companies have their plans figured out, while senior managers at Fidelity are still waiting to hear from the top. The constant rumors are unhealthy for everyone. People want to plan their lives for this summer/fall and a lot of that revolves around WFH plans. For example, whether or not to renew a lease, planning for daycare, volunteering to coach kids sports because you can be at practice in time, etc.. I know some people never want to step foot in the office again, but I think many people are perfectly fine going in part of the time as long as it's worth it.

"I’d like to know how does someone get to get a better job at Fidelity?" Answer: Leave for about a year, working in your field, then come back via the revolving door. Hiring managers love round-trippers because they (should) already know how to get things done at Fidelity. Just make sure you leave on the best of terms so you'll be eligible for re-hire. Been there, done that, got the T shirt.

Re-entry is not for top brass. They worked from wherever, whenever, anyways. It’s more for everyone else.

I’d like to know how does someone get to get a better job at Fidelity? For example, they open a job today, I apply today, and by tomorrow there’s a notification that the post has been filled. How’s that even possible?

The only explanation is that better jobs are given to friend and family and everything else is just a formality. I say that because I saw it: “I don’t even know how I was able to get this job. My mom works here, though.”

I’d be somewhat OK with it if the people getting jobs were qualified. But they are not. People working phones will die working phones and extra work on a side.

My re-entry will consist of turning in my badge, laptop, and monitor, then cracking a cold one to close the books on my Fidelity career. Cheers!

It is not going to go well. You will be sold on culture, Fidelity way, collaboration etc. I think groups will be required to go in soon, certain number of days, team meetings but it will be different for each group. The response of the new woke culture that has and is being further pushed forward by the VBO will be interesting. Why do we have to go in more than X group? Why do certain people not have to go in at all? Please remember that the people slowly becoming in charge all got a trophy. SO, they want everyone treated the same. When people are not treated the same this is going to explode.

I know that Fidelity top brass reads these posts.

My message to them... Allow people to work from home and sell off some of the giant people warehouses (real estate). Save tons of money and increase employee morale at the same time.

I'm confused about the re-entry. Abby's video stated hybrid and purposeful re-entry. You will be in with your teams, you will be in when required for certain meetings. Haven;t heard anything about how that is supposed to work? Everyone back in all at once? IDK rumor has it an email is coming out this week. I do think we will be back in the office in some capacity by fall.
