Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

I’m still here because

Thanks to my tenure, if I am impacted by any future layoffs I would be able to look for a job for at least 8 months with severance and unemployment before touching my savings. If I voluntarily leave where would I find that safety net? I could move on to another company and get laid off from there with little to no severance so I take it one day at a time here. I worry about job security but there is no fear of it. Come what may I am doing what’s best for me.

To the poster that mentioned that the severance plan is being changed, can you provide more details? Are they going to a 1-week per year of service structure? This plan change had been rumored in the past but never came to fruition.

Golden handcuffs. The only way to get them off properly is to get laid off with severance. Other than that you are on your own.

You may want to re-think this. They are revamping the severance pkg - it won't be as lucrative as it was before.

This place is toxic . Actively interviewing elsewhere. Not even my manager promised things will get better Under Tom and Glen anymore . Check back in 2 years when Tommy and Glen the butcher are gone . India must love Allstate .

Because just because they have in the past doesn't mean they will next time.

You should never assume you'll get severance or anything of the nature and always plan like you won't

Not saying you are wrong but what makes you think that?

The sad truth is that it would not surprise me if you were right.

I wouldn't assume severance will be offered...

It’s hard taking it day by day in auto claims. They keep throwing more inspects at us. My coworkers keep quitting. The mental abuse wears at us. They screwed up in layoffs and now we’re paying for it. Actively looking elsewhere outside the insurance industry.

Makes sense as long as you don’t disable out from too much stress and abuse first. You are only needed until India and the Bots are ready to take your job in another year.
