Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

ARPA - Is anyone’s COBRA premium being paid by Allstate?

According to the ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act), employers are required to pay for 100% of COBRA premiums for eligible employees affected by involuntary separation from their employer. This was to take effect April 1st, and continue through September 1st. It’s a federally supported subsidy that all employers are required to adhere to. At least for me, this hasn’t happened yet. This is the third month that I’ve had my COBRA premiums deducted from my bank account. I’ve called about it a couple of times, and the answer is “we’re still looking at it”. Is anyone else in this situation, and if so, what are the responses that you’re getting from HR? After extremely long wait time, I might add . . . .

Yes, I finally received a letter from corporate and was reimbursed for my April and May premiums and will not be billed for June thru September. Between my severance, extended pandemic unemployment benefits and six months of free COBRA, they would have saved more money by keeping me on.

I’m one let go last Nov & was able to retire. I called HR & they suspended my retiree medical & enrolled me in Cobra eff: 4/1/21-9/30/21. 10/1 I call back to put me back on retiree medical. Cobra includes medical, dental & vision. Also entitled to $100 incentive if you get annual physical, annual mammo etc. Getting reimbursed April & May premiums. Also removed my bank info bc it was right around the time for June 1st payment. I will add back come end of Sept. So, yes, Allstate is required to pay everyone’s medical 100% who was laid off. Repeat: from 4/1/21-9/30/21. Get someone knowledgeable on phone with HR because I heard some don’t know what they are talking about. Another tidbit, even tho we recd severance, ALL entitled to unemployment starting 12/28/20. TW must be kicking himself in the A$$. SMDHj

Yep. I was told similar. Due to unclear direction they are not paying for our COBRA due to government not paying them and they refer you for all reimbursement requests and questions back to COBRA.

Allstate HR told me that any past reimbursements need to go through COBRA itself because Allstate said they got nothing in terms of funds from the govt to reimburse with and that this is a federal govt program and not Allstate. They pretty much said until they get money from the Fed that the matter is between me and the government.

I am still unemployed and was able to get a nearly $600 gold plan from the healthcare market place for $190 a month (single) with subsidies. Might be cheaper than cobra and you wont have to deal with allstate. My deductible is like $1200.

I still have not had my COBRA paid or reimbursed. Whenever I talk to Allstate all they keep saying is the Fed is not clear with and changing the guidelines. I have since canceled COBRA and went with much cheaper privately purchased health coverage for myself. I will pursue reimbursement if I ever get a straight answer.
