Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I am done

I have never quit in my life. I was laid off twice, but never in my life did I think I would be walking out on a decent job of my own volition. But when you are having serious problems with a belligerent and borderline abusive manager and HR is doing nothing to help you, there is not much choice left. I feel petrified but also relieved. Good luck to the rest of you, and I hope you are luckier than I am if you ever have to deal with HR.

Dell pretends like they want to retain talent, but don't mind laying off, underpaying, and generally just pushing talented people out of the company. They put the least competent people in charge and only care about checking off boxes over actual applicable experience.

I have young children to support. If not I would just quit. Such a hot mess. MGR can’t be bothered with a call when I try to reach out to discuss solutions to the nightmare problems. Obviously looking for new opportunities outside of the company but don’t have the option to just quit.

HR is to help the company, not the employee, don’t confuse.

I've had 3 separate colleagues with 3 different highly abusive managers that turned to HR in desperation, and all were told to suck it up or leave (not in those words obviously). More like "this might not be a cultural fit for you, and you are free to leave" sort of things. I've kept an eye on these particular managers, and even through Dell's recent WFRs and and demoting of managers to "individual contributor" roles, they have continued to rise in the ranks at Dell. What does that tell you about Dell? In my opinion, it tells you all you need to know about Dell.

I left years ago and couldn't be happier.

Ditto! If you have a talent - leave and use it to make money!

HR is there to protect the company (and it's choice of unqualified and deplorable managers), not you. Individual contributors are disposable commodities. As you've seen, it's a numbers game. If you ever believed that whole HR spiel about "you are our most valuable resource this company has" ... wake up and smell the coffee. I left years ago and couldn't be happier.
