I'm not sure about other locations, but we're chronically understaffed. I'm having trouble doing anything right since I'm rushing, trying to get to everything that has to be done. Then, of course, I catch flack for things not being prefect. This is honestly becoming ridiculous. We obviously need more people. Why we're not getting any is beyond me.

Well I am glad you are allowed to hire actual part time team members at your location. But plenty of us are told that we are not allowed to hire. Temps only, if this temp agency can even provide them. I gave them my needs for Spring and got nothing, except a complaint from the one maybe-hire that they found.
It might depend on the region, but for the past year we were told we could not hire anyone, and we could only hire temps at Rush. When we finally we able to hire somebody (Not because Follett got any less cheap, but I think the school complained about there only being 1 person working during the last day of rental check-in), everything had to go through our RM, so I don't see how it would be up to the store manager at all. Now we are getting a bunch of applicants for a team member but we can not hire anymore. They will only let us hire temps, which are not applying.

We're hiring temps through a temp agency. And that's not even required. There's literally nothing stopping a SM from hiring PT employees. If a SM hires their own staff, they don't even need temps.

- LOL, We are hiring through a temp agency these days.... meaning the store manager has very little control over applicants.
If YOUR location is chronically understaffed, YOU'RE asking the wrong questions.

We are hiring. I'm sure every location is hiring. Or they should be, at least. Maybe your manager isn't following up with applicants? Or maybe you just aren't getting any applicants. But, as a company, we are very much hiring. It's discussed every week on our RM huddle. Heck, we have a staffing agency specifically for hiring temps. If your location is chronically understaffed, you're asking the wrong questions.
Why hire when we can get one person to do the work of 3?
And we'll abuse them for not doing enough!
