Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Is the grass always greener?

Don’t know about ALL other companies but Intel offers lower health insurance, more pta, longer parental leave than many competitors. Only reason you can complain is the incompetence of management and the limited opportunities for advancement.

it doesn't matter
depends on what you value
if you value cousin, relatives, wife and go home on time, pay check on time. Intel is the right choice
if you look for value, purpose, belonging....maybe somewhere else but other issues maybe there. but you have to prioritize

@3hcd+1bT8RGgC This only works if you are from the same village as management.

It all comes down to how much risk you’re willing to take.

There’s never a guarantee you end up somewhere better, but if you have skills and are confident in your ability to demonstrate them, there are better deals out there to be had. Maybe you bounce around a few times before landing at the right spot, but if you’re good, bet on yourself.

If you want guarantees, you’re best off staying at Intel and spending your work hours brown-nosing the managers and trying to steal credit from other (preferably junior and less politically savvy) engineers. You’ll survive any future layoffs unscathed because that’s how the game is played at Intel. Plenty of others have been operating with this strategy for many years. Can’t say I’ve ever seen it fail, at least below the VP level. It’s the safe road to take and doesn’t require skills or hard work.

For what most people do in Intel, they get paid more than they deserve!
Go to some meetings, come up with some smokes and mirrors excuses-- Im waiting for that, Im blocked by this etc etc. Take info from this meeting, present it in the other etc.
Then the project either gets cancelled or the issue becomes irrelevant or it resolves, thanks to some 10% who actually contribute something.

Husband-wife pair getting an average of 250K+ and then complain over 2-3 hr lunches, wfh and oop-appts that other companies pay better :)

You know it's from HR when it says "LOWER health insurance". Lower for intel HR to pay probably... use human words in your scripts next time.

Hello it’s semiconductor industry. If you know litho, that’s all you know. Does intel pay well? Yes. But is it worth all the bs for 1.5% raise and all the games people play? If you like the ride of every few years worrying about your job. Cool stay there. There are other industries that pay more than intel and benefits are better. What does intel put in you 401k? 3%?
Brainwashed, intel is the only job you will have or you will find nothing better. Or there are 100 people ready to take your job. Sound familiar? Sabbaticals were put in place so you don’t get burnt out.
Do your research about other industries. Yes it’s a scary world and intel is not the only company.

Intel's peers are Cisco, Wipro and Infosys.

Intel employees think google or Microsoft or Apple are their peers. No the peers are AMD, TI, Samsung, TSMC and Nvidia. Intel pays way more than those with the exception of Nvidia.

Tbh - it was correct until few years back.
Now compenstation of other companies is way way better than intel(1.6 to 2 times of intel).
Market has changed, compensation wise its much below even average.
And to those expecting “pride, challenge etc.” at work - let me break it to you. Such a thing do not exist.
Corporations are run for profits and for profits you need to carve out often mundane processes to maximize predictability and minimize variation.
You looking for challenge and fun - go join a university or buy a ticket to wonderland or smoke something really good…

There is thing called compensation (yes money) that some people care about when choosing an employer. Perhaps you can consider that into account.
And you will figure out the issue with Intel.
Other than that, yeah, it is a great place to hang out and prep for interview.
Cheers!

If you go to work just to punch in and punch out, collect that paycheck, get your benefits and the fact the company, management and coworkers are all playing games to keep the paycheck and benefits, okay.

If you hope to have some pride, honor and want to build something with a team of committed employes; product, change the world etc.... then maybe not.

Pat has a dream, sadly that Intel is gone.

x86 HPC computing under siege and beaten by a company with far smaller revenue and more nimble culture with superior manufacturing.

Manufacturing leadership lost and no scale and capability to catch up.

High volume client still got game because competitors can't make all the volume, that that is changing with big spends from Samsung and TSMC. Sorry GF does't help and 20billion fab in Az doesn't fix it.

ARM is a billion dollar volume ecosystem compared to the x86 300million volume. it has hundreds of companies and this little company called Apple showing what can be done with it. Then you got about a dozen others attacking.

Sorry collect your benefits and hope they are good enough when the Titanic sinks your lifeboat collected enough to live on

FUBAR

LOL! If you have any skill you can make much more elsewhere but you’ll have to work. If you are accustomed to delivering only excuses on one canceled project after the next while working with your wife then stay put, you’ve got it great!
