How not to repeat the experience from Anthem?

What's the first thing you look at when looking for a new job opportunity?
It is impossible to find the ideal company. It may be possible to find one that best suits your priorities.
I'm getting out of here as soon as possible and I got an offer that is maybe just a little better in terms of payment and benefits. I think I will accept because some assure me that there is a much better and more relaxed atmosphere there. I’ve researched a lot, but you can never know what awaits you until you come to a new company. The only thing that matters to me is not to repeat the experience from Anthem, with management that is often more than clueless.

I realize it’s been a while since this was posted but I’m an Anthem recoveree now in a new, pretty cool company. The biggest difference I noticed prior to receiving both jobs was how they interviewed. Anthem gave me a pre-recorded video interview and the manager interviewed me once. She had very basic questions I could tell she was reading from a script, and didn’t interact with my answers. Just would say “okay good” and move on. I was offered the job with no personality questions, without seeing the office, without meeting anyone else.

At my new company, I had 3 interviews with multiple people. They asked both experience and behavioral questions, and would turn it into a conversation rather than just “ticking the box”. They seemed more transparent & emotionally intelligent in general… just a feeling I got. This route is obviously more challenging than my Anthem interviews, but I would do it 100 times over if that means not working at a place like Anthem.

Good luck!

Being in IT at Anthem, the main thing I will look for at my next job is how they do budgeting. If IT does timecards and no one else does, that is a dealbreaker! I am so tired of being scrutinized for every hour on my timesheet while project management pi---s away millions of dollars doing nothing with no repercussions!
