Why would anyone who was able to find employment elsewhere want to return to Ford?

I had a coworker who did and they never rehired him back. They hold grudges like 5 year old girl
I saw the same thing 15-20 years back as well, though I think they just came back in different positions without any real change in pay grade. After the "Right Sizing" of 2006 a lot of people went over to GE, and a few seem to have come back after a decade away. Basically only after GE took a hatchet, then chainsaw, to cut down their footprint. Come to think of it, I'm not sure any of those people are still here.
TL;DR - I wouldn't plan on being able to come back anytime soon if you turn your badge into HR for any reason.
Back about 20 years ago, I knew of 2 people who went to a competitor and then got hired back with promotions. I think things have changed now. I wouldn’t expect to get hired back if you left the company.
