Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Registers down, registers fixed, registers down...

Was the switch from MTech to NCR one of the worst things to happen or could NCR only do so much with our dinosaur register systems? I would rather say that the biggest problem is in registry systems and that no one can do a miracle with something that is more than 20 years old.

Somehow Macy’s saves money by having NCR handle Field Service duties instead of when we were in house as MTech. There is a big lack of communication as to what we NCR service and what MTech is responsible for. I see it all the time as far as confusion on the store side and Supply Chain locations.
Most stores are bad at opening tickets or due to low staff don’t have the same time to call the Help Desk and open them. I will keep going until told otherwise. Plus remember in a lot of regions, NCR covers many retail and banking accounts including Walmart. We don’t have the same bandwidth as the good ole MTech days.

As someone who worked for MTech for a long time and is now with NCR, I can say that the equipment is very old especially registers. Except for the larger stores with the newer touch screen registers the current registers are 13-14 years old. Macy’s will invest in their larger more profitable stores not so much in the smaller stores. And definitely no action in the Neighborhood stores. We work with what is on site and do the best we can to support based on the current SLA agreements of which I hear have changed a few times since we started in 2019

NCR can’t do magic with 30 yr old junk we have. Not to worry though. our brilliant CEO now has a new MTech leader that knows nothing about retail

NCR was handed an impossible situation. Ancient equipment that even OEM vendors wont touch.

Sometimes a reboot is all that's needed, so yes that's why you try that first. Then open a ticket if the problem is still there.

There should be plenty of Macy's parts registers with stock from all of the Macy's that already closed.

When we have a register problem, we are told to press a button on the register to turn it off and a few seconds later press the button again to turn it on and maybe that will fix it. If not, make a ticket for it.

Another reason they won't fix them is because they don't have the parts for older NCR registers. The Sears registers were even older and they had to cannibalize parts from old Sears NCR registers to fix the store registers when they broke down.
