Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Is meritocracy still a thing?

So far all I’ve noticed is that “top performers” are always the a-s kissers, friends, family and manager’s favorites with performance being completely ignored. How sad is that? Basically no one seems to be rewarded who puts in an honest day’s work. Criticize me all you want but you know it’s true. Am I complaining because I feel I’m not being rewarded for my hard work? No, I’m complaining because others aren’t breaking a sweat yet are getting rewarded for doing absolute cr-p.

That "grass is always greener" proverb must have been made up by people who have a vested interest in keeping you in your place under their thumb and maintaining the status quo. There's plenty of beautiful places if you look for them.

Been writing software for many years and have worked for several companies. The best advice I can give is do the best job you can and if after a reasonable amount of time you don't feel like you are being rewarded/appreciated then move on, either within Ford or elsewhere. While you may be justified in complaining about your current situation, it is unlikely to bring any change. From experience I can tell you that while the grass may not be very green where you currently reside, it's not always greener elsewhere.

LOL! We have someone who was awarded the title of "SME" for literally sweet talking management to make himself sound like a top notch engineer, all the while delivering a product that is a leader in warranty cost.
The rumor is he has "something" on our LL5 and or above to protect himself from any repercussions. Heck, they let him get away with misusing company vehicles year after year after year.
So, this is another reason to add to your list how slackers get top performance reviews.

In many large companies meritocracy is gone. Ford is notorious for this phenomenon.
There tends to be 8 pretenders and social climbers for every two people doing work.

I started “dropping people into the soup” as every time I made a proposal 8 people immediately claimed it was their idea and that they were on the team implementing the idea. After I did all the work they then all claimed credit. So now as soon as they claim it is their idea and they are implementing it, I step back and do absolutely nothing. When they inevitably call me to ask the status I sweetly say, I don’t know anything about your idea and project-why don’t me tell me what it is and what progress you have made? (Note they never email or text, always a phone call from their personal cellphone).

Of course they all attempt to throw me under the bus, in which case I schedule a meeting with the vermin and their superiors depending how the meeting flows I either
a) claim it was the first I ever heard about it and why am I being blamed for not doing someone else’s work? or
b) state that it was my idea and since the vermin claimed it was theirs I thought it was only fair that they do the work.
I immediately send meeting transcript after the meeting to the attendees and their superiors.

I changed from being ticked off to LMAO daily.

A couple of the vermin have gotten the message and stopped their behavior, the rest well it is the only thing they know. The LL6 and LL5 clearly know what is going on and haven’t stopped it, ah but the paper trail is long and getting longer :). The LL6 squirms in the meetings and tries to distance himself and play the teamwork card, knowing full well that only 2 people on his team are doing any real work.

It's everywhere. One job I had, a guy couldn't code himself out of a wet paper bag. All he did was smooze with our manager, director and our business partners. He just delegated all his work/assignments and did nothing to advance the team. He quickly got 2 promotions - Senior Programmer and then an Analyst. Guy didn't know sh!t from sh----a and p!ssed off so many other employees that were so much more deserving of promotions than him.
