Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Do you consider yourself safe?

I'm interested if there are people - and if so, how many - who believe they are safe from the incoming cuts? If you believe you will not be impacted, can you please share why? Everybody I know is worried, some to the point of already looking for new employment. I'm just curious if there are those who are not as affected by this as most of us are.

I feel safe individually but I think our entire group as a whole is a risk within the next 5-10 years

It takes just one bad assignment to be at risk. A bad assignment could be not seeing eye to eye with your boss, having a terrible boss (bad tempered, immoral, etc), being in a team where your teammates don’t know what teamwork means, etc.

You do your best to survive and try to get out of that assignment as quickly as possible.

You need to look at being safe as having an emergency fund and keeping your skills marketable.

It has nothing to do with your employer. Don’t let yourself feel trapped.

I am really good at what I do both technically and as a supervisor. I have been outstanding for 10+ years. I don’t feel safe and I am job hunting

With everyone on 1 year contracts, we will all soon know if we are safe for another year.

I feel safe for this round of cuts since I’ve received my performance review. We’ll see about next year.

I have a long time left before I’m NRE, and I won’t feel safe until I hit that point

As a short term NRE, I feel safe. I would like PIL so I don’t think I will get it.

He-l no! We have a few good managers but plenty of bad ones. Your at the mercy of every a-s clown that’s a bad one and really in a bind if you get a bad one that stays in the position for any period of time. Leaving Baton Rouge and will never return

Absolutely! My calendar is full of meetings, some I actually know nothing about, but I had some availability, so I accepted. I make sure and speak up during every meeting to add “my value” before telling others “I’ve gotta jet” and hurry to another meeting. This shows I’m needed and valuable.

I can even schedule a meeting, when a two minute conversation will solve the issue, but who doesn’t love to spend an hour chatting about last weekend or the one coming up.

Yes, in the eyes of XOM, I am valuable. We should have a meeting.

1000% safe! I Yam, power walk around the office and I attend meetings and write down everything a manager says on my notepad! I do this because it makes them feel like their words are pure gold!

As a bonus I answer all my phone calls on speaker, so managers can hear me be productive, AND I print out lot of documents and put them all over my desk! I will be here until the ship sinks or until I am good and ready to leave on my own.
