Thread regarding Refinitiv layoffs

Don't quit

I know more and more people are considering quitting but at this point, that would be a huge mistake, at least in my opinion. Refinitiv has been increasing layoffs and will continue to do so. If you quit now when you know more cuts are coming, you lose out on a chance to walk away with a severance package. It's not a guarantee but it's sure enough to keep me here for a while longer.

LSEG exec level is making it easy for people to quit. I’ve been here for a while and I’m contemplating forgoing the package. Technology, especially, is a mess. LSEG Executives aligned employees to groups they don’t belong to. They don’t listen to anyone but make decisions for others. They aren’t transparent. It’s a sh-t show.

The “What about opportunity cost” comment already nailed it, but I’ll add that I know about a dozen people (in a big office) who have been waiting for redundancy for at least five years. Perhaps it’ll work out, but all of that coasting and cynicism comes at personal cost. I’ve seen a few good engineers become bad because of it. They’re definitely less employable, but also less fun to be around. It’s like an Invasion of the Ability Snatchers - don’t risk it being you.

Unless you are one of the enhanced severance packages like ex-Reuters, and you have a good opportunity to leave, I would go. Why hang around in this toxic place, with execs that just do not have a clue. We can all see that the integration is a mess and will take years. It will also cost millions, which which put more strain on budgets.

The stress and treatment is not worth it.

The only ones not looking or considering looking are those that know they would not get a similar role outside and know they would get called out.

If you have any other option, jump and never look back to the dumpster fire.

I wish I had never joined the company.

What about opportunity cost? Every month you stay at your current job is a month when you don't get paid more at a new job and a month when you don't work towards a promotion at a new job. There's an even greater cost if you currently are burnt out or unhappy. Sure, if your department is about to get cut, staying may be worth it but it's not like everything has an LSE counterpart or can be transferred to a cheaper location right away
