120 Canadian Tire Corporate IT Professionals will be provided severance and laid off at the end of October 2021. This announcement to employees was given just hours after CTC signed a partnership with overseas company HCL Technologies.
HCL will potentially re-hire 27 employees to manage the new account.
It's worth noting that the CTC CTO gave this announcement over roughly 10 minutes while obviously sitting in his car between errands.
Outsourced HCL is still hot garbage. Issues take forever for remediation, and when HCL finally comes back stating they fixed the problem, the issue still persists and refuses to listen to knowledgeable CT employees that HCL did not fix the security gap properly or not at all...

One year into the outsourcing wonder how cr---y services has turned out. Does Reckless Lee and his band of merry id--ts regret their decision to outsource.
Scuttlebutt is that the outsourcing has gone worse than anticipated. I'd expected that the outsourcee would be used as bagholders while the execs made a graceful exit, but was wrong.
The mo--ns in charge actually expected this to work .
I'd underestimated the foolishness of KeAl, and his patron ReLe.
There are multiple reports of outright maliciousness and abuse on the part of the outsourcer towards CTC staff, and of course the best incompetence the bottom dollar can buy.
The outsourcee lacks the tribal knowledge to run CTC infra systems, and days are passed with bullying, fingerpointing, and blame.
It's all cascading towards catastrophic failure. The dominoes are falling, but it may not be apparent to the world outside until they hit either retail, or ecommerce. Once those services go down, they will be hard to restore.
It would be hard to say how soon, but it won't be long.
CTC shares would make a good short.
HCL sucks big time. They have no clue what they are doing, they break systems and blame it on phantom issues. Almost like they purposely make problems just to pad their incident ticket count. Bunch of useless id--ts.
Seriously who's bright idea was it to send all of operations over to India, land of the CRA spam calls.
Folks who dealt with HCL in the past were right, these guys are a waste of time and effort. Bravo CTC, bravo.

This was certainly an upsetting announcement. So far the HCL transition has been rather painful. Certain requests take forever to get processed, the team is severely lacking in experience with older technologies which cannot be decommissioned/replaced anytime soon.
Upper management swears up and down that there won't be any more lay offs, but nobody believes them.
It seems like a reckless move, can't help but wonder if the C-suite folks, etc. are gearing up to sell off this company. Why else would they feel the need to outsource a rather large chunk of our I.T. operations to "save on operational costs" at a time when the company is making record high profits? Something is definitely brewing in the background.
So based on this I won't be shopping at CT any more. And good luck with the India workers; they are sub-par in my experience when dealing with them.
This is sick. 107 people given notice who are very technical and run CTC day to day. Never a question about their dedication and long years of service. Yet, not a single AVP, VP, SRP was let go - they are safe. Also, many announcements re: the new talent being hired. This is one of the most reckless moves at CTC ever. The ignorance at the top is astounding. CTC pays most EPAM, NESS, HCL contracts at close to $100/hr, give or take. The stocks appear healthy now. Issues with supply chain, merch, other to follow.
I don't understand the surprise. Canadian Tire has always talked about automation in the IT world, specifically the operation. This has been happening since the 90's, so you have had 30 years to find something else. The real outrage is that they are sending the jobs of 100+ Canadian IT individuals to India. They still want Canadians to buy their products but want to spend their money elsewhere. During a world wide pandemic, many people out of jobs and struggling they send 100 people to the unemployment line and they save money by sending Canadian jobs offshore.
CTC is probably the worst place to work at least in technology department. 2 Years back they fired 20 employee from DATA Technology team. This is when they had contractors who were changing 100 CAD per hour. Contractors were not even working 4 hours a day and then charging Canadian Tire 18 hours a day even on weekends. Those contractors and still in the company but they fired full time employee.
The Hire management is most corrupt, unskilled I have seen and I have worked in more than 10 companies. And you can only imagine when your CTO, VP and AVPs are like these they are gonna hired only A-S LICKING employee so that they don't get expose.
Their decision doesn’t have to make sense! The former CTO of CTC awarded huge IT contracts to EPAM from Ukraine. After leaving the CTC he has been seating in the EPAM’s board of directors to collect his money.
It must be someone from his circle to bring in HCL. This is the most stupid decision a CTO could do to destroy a company. If he really wanted to cut cost, why didn’t he start with his own “baby” - the Digital team?
Ctc used to be a great place to work. They really cared for their employees and treated us like family. Outsiders who get hired always had high regard to the ctc workplace compared to where they’ve worked in the past. That’s no longer the case. It’s like any other company. Cut throat and don’t give a sh-t.
