hi all, serious question here. I might have a chance to get transferred to the CBU, my family and I really love Calgary. Although I am afraid of the long term outlook. Literally all advice I heard from colleagues is only great things about CBU, but something inside me says this new president is there for something not so good. What are your thoughts, worth the try?

"no matter what happens to your host team-project, CVX will relocate you, etc"
That is an outright lie.
Past history proves this to be a completely false statement
Now that CBU moved FC out as President, should be ok. He was incompetent and a typical sniffer.
Aren’t there any qualified Canadians?
@1qqx+1bH9K3j7 yeah i was about to comment about it. I am in CBU and from the internal job posting i saw few weeks ago I can say the original post is applying for the geo position in KD, pretty easy to know who you are if you get transferred to Calgary. KD is a good place to be these days, very smart people there and lots of potential to growth.
And you feel a need to post this on the layoffs board? Please explain. Thanks.
I’m in CBU, and as others have mentioned, we don’t have a ton going on and have recently had our capital cut for KD. Kitimat will be sold/reclaimed and returned to the province or Haisla. There is some potential on the East Coast as we have a decision in Q3 on a potential exploration well. We have multiple NOJV’s in northern AB and Atlantic Canada. That said, it is a great location and the people are fantastic - CBU has an excellent culture and is small enough that One Team is actually working. Depending on the role, it could be a good move. If you know anyone in CBU, maybe reach out and ask a few questions.
Calgary is a very nice city (was even nicer 20 years ago when I lived there, but it continues to expand like crazy). I would go for it… tar sands are dead, but both the Canadian east and far north are excellent long term prospects.
I agree with @whu+, never transfer into a weak BU, particularly if it involves a move. CBU has no strong production position to anchor them. Texaco Canada also looked good, right up to the point Texaco sold out of it (in order to pay its dividend). Chevron may relocate you back to your home office, but historically there's no guarantee what position you'll be put in.
I know multiple people who transferred into AMBU within a year of its divestiture announcement. Not all of them made it to another BU in the scramble to jump from the sinking ship. Trust your gut. There aren’t any good, safe upstream BUs left.
what is the fear? CVX exiting Canada? nah....wont happen, it is strategic for chevron to keep presence in the white north even loosing money
Kitimat, share of Athabasca, declining Hebron production and Downstream sale..... is a sale of the remaining CBU assets a likely scenario ? Would your position go with the buyer ?
I agree that Calgary is one of the best expat locations in the Chevron upstream world.
As long as you arewilling to relocate and are flexible, even if things go down, mother Chevron will place you in another position, i would say go for it, take the ride and enjoy it. WTI is above 70 and liklryto stay for a while.
I know LABU expats who were fired as the BU collapsed. It could happen at CBU. Never transfer into a weak BU. Even if you keep a job, it will be stressful as heck and do nothing for your career.
depends on your role and terms on your expatriate assignment, regardless of the CBU performance you might be safe forever. I was an expat in south America for several years, no matter what happens to your host team-project, CVX will relocate you, etc
