Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Don't let them fire you!

And don’t let them fire you. Demand a lay off if they want to get rid of you so badly. Their strategy is to make you so miserable you’ll either dig your own grave, or quit. I waited too long to be able to negotiate leaving on my terms, and eventually they set me up, and terminated me with only two weeks severance after I worked hard for 8 years. At the time, I would have gladly left with some kind of deal. In the end it was a brutal ambush, and I couldn’t even leave with my personal cubicle belongings. They threw out all of my notebooks, and said they were company property. Some of these were notebooks from classes unrelated to Centene that I brought to work to enhance my skills. I was escorted out of the building like an inmate in a prison. Humiliating and cruel. Don’t be blindsided!

@1eww+1budjtyD, my experience is almost identical, (and I believe there are many more like this?), so I copied the post into a new thread as a good advice to others.

I’d only say do it if they’re trying to push you out using potentially illegal methods and you’re in a particular (protected) class. You’d have to let them know in a low key way you’d be willing to “take” a layoff if they’d like to see you go (because you’ve been documenting and it seems you’ve established a pattern that leads you to believe xyz….). This is not to be done in every situation but it certainly applies to some and in that case wouldn’t matter what “level” you are if you can keep a cool head and dot all your I’s and cross your T’s.

The only time they will negotiate when firing you is if your job is at a higher level and you are BFFs with some of your management. Don't give false hope to someone thinking they can negotiate a great deal on the way out of a lower level job.....they will have everything documented and you will need to as well. Then have that discussion with them prior to an actual firing taking place. They might reconsider, but don't bet on it.

Of course you do! That’s like saying they don’t have the ability to make it look like a good employee isn’t up to snuff. There are the rules and then there are the (actual) rules.

You don't get the ability to negotiate a layoff vs being fired. Do what another post suggested and document what is going on (eg; time, who, where, why, etc). That may have helped if you approached them / HR prior to letting it go far enough that they were firing you. Hope you all have success finding a position outside of Centene that appreciates you.
