Lead counsel/SCO

How many reductions in lead counsel positions will there be? There are 3 lead counsel at my office currently. If they will only be managing attorneys and not staff going forward, we probably only need 1(15 attorneys or so). Does anyone know anything about this? And would their job be eliminated or would they still stay on as an attorney with the office?

There will be lead counsel reductions in most offices since they are no longer managing the support staff as well.

Detroit SCO is going from 3 to 1.

Lead Counsels are to be managing no more than 15 attorneys. Do the math. How many attorneys are in your office v. How many Lead Counsels.

We have four lead councils and expect that to be cut down to two based on the number of attorneys we have in our office.

We got the word that we are going from 4 to 1 this week. I am starting to wonder whether they might be moved down to counsel once the counsel that are leaving due to the SSP are gone. If that’s the plan, the timing is perfect.

LC's across the country seem to manage anywhere from 10-20 people, it really varies by complex. I imagine that the new C1 will manage around the same number of support staff, so you can do the math and figure out roughly how many LC's will be left once you take away their support staff. If there are open Trial Counsel positions, then the LC's could transition to those spots, but they're not going to create new positions for them if their offices are already fully staffed with attorneys (wouldn't save much money that way would it?!?). If you've seen the description for the C1 job, it's very vague, so the SMC's are going to have a lot of discretion in how they use that position going forward.
