Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

When you feel unhappy that you didn't get layoff...

(like me), it just means you’re in the wrong company. I got a pretty good offer from another company, although not much better than here, but my intention is to leave this here as soon as possible.
I'm debating whether to wait a little longer and whether the severance pay is worth living in agony here. How much better offer would encourage you to give up waiting for severance and leave?

Join the loser club and take a back seat and do less than minimal work required until next layoff round.

What are they going to fire you.... or maybe you'll be promoted to management.

Dell had voluntary and involuntary layoffs in late 2013 (voluntary) and early 2014 (involuntary). I took the voluntary separation...4 months base + a week for every year I was there. I was there for 14 years. My understanding is the involuntary separation package was identical to the voluntary. So, if it comes to packages take it and run. If they are not offering voluntary/involuntary packages, I would expect this to be significantly less base months if it is straight up layoffs. My former Dell account executive (who was outstanding) ended up being let go about 6 months ago and I know he got 3 months base severance. It took him a while to find something as it is much more difficult to find a job if you don't have one.

I don't know how old you are, but I can offer this advice. If you are unhappy where you work find something new while you have a job and leverage. Life is too short to be unhappy where you work. Take control of your situation, don't let the situation control you. I left Dell. My new employer had to come back to me three times before getting the comp I wanted and deserved. I would not have been able to negotiate if I didn't have a job. JMO.

I got layed off last year. The severance is going to be the same for everyone, 2 months pay. I got really screwed when I was hired at Dell from a money standpoint. With my current employer they brought me in for 90K more on base, not counting my comp plan. Don't wait for them to let you go, if you're unhappy and who wouldn't be working in such a toxic environment, leave, run really quickly and get out. Dell is the most horrific place I've ever worked at.

15% higher total compensation and at least 15% higher base. That being said I left my previous company to a new company (startup) which gave me 10% lower annual compensation but two years from starting to work at the new company my total annual salary is 25% higher than that of the old company. So if you really want to leave there is always a way .. good luck
