Band E and above reviews are done and Allstate is switching its focus to support staff starting in July. Legal is looking to centralize support functions in certain markets. That coupled with a reduction in attorney staff and possibly moving some support functions overseas means less need for Administrative Assistants and Paralegals.

My SCO is "hiring" attorneys, but at the same time, many of us got the VTO offer/started looking for new jobs. They are trying to off the attorneys that make more money and replace them with newbies at half our salary. Makes sense to them, except these attorneys don't know the business. Good luck with that. We are all looking for new jobs. 3 of us have already found them. I put my notice in last Friday and they are scrambling.

Before everyone panics, keep in mind that Staff Counsel is less expensive than sending files to outside law firms. Allstate is trying to save money, not spend more of it. That being said, if you are in an office/complex/market that has seen a decrease in files, then you're likely to see cuts. If you're in an office/complex/market that is doing well and growing, then you're likely safe. Already this year, open positions have been shifted around the country and there are SCO's that are hiring, but there are also SCO's that aren't replacing people when they leave. I don't think anyone is going to associate Job security with Allstate right now, so everyone should have a backup plan/exit strategy.

Its across the board. August will start with Jersey, New York, Michigan, Illinois. Other states have already been hit or will be hit starting in June/July. Time to polish the resume up.

SCO layoffs are most definitely happening. Even if you did not get the VTO offer, you are at risk. The offer was only extended to band E and above (counsel level and up) to start with because they make the highest salaries. Not nearly enough people took this offer so the layoffs are set to occur in August. It will effect every level at SCO, but mostly attorneys. They will be significant. This is not “fake news”. This is really happening.

There were a lot that had to take assessments in 2020 whose jobs were retained while others in the same department who were not given assessments were laid off so I would not at all assume that if you were not offered voluntary term and not given assessments that you are safe.

If you are in SCO and were not given an option to leave or required to take an assessment, does that mean your job is safe?

Hmmmm...both voluntary term offers AND assessments in SCO recently. I'd say that says it all.....

Can’t confirm all offices, but I’ve heard legal is about to get hit hard. I’d be looking.
