Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Growing criticism?

I have a manager who is the main reason why I will leave this company. I would understand if he had some strong and valid arguments for criticizing my work, but no. Lately I have a feeling that all he is doing is looking for even the slightest reason to criticize me. You can always find fault even with the best employee. I am under such pressure that this is no longer tolerable. I thought it was a red flag before the cut, but this hasn't stopped for a very long time. I hope you don't have such a manager?

USB is such a negative, nasty environment to work for. Your manager will never be happy with your work because their crummy manager is never happy with the team. Negative all the time. Never told that you are a valuable asset. Never a simple thanks for your expertise and effort. Just criticism.

Whoa! I know exactly what you mean. Samething is happening for me with my manager. The funny part is when you argue with them they’re flabbergasted and don’t know how to answer the questions. Not surprised though they hired a guy who worked at mcdonalds… and these so called “supervisors” have some kind of leadership?

Managers at USB will never have your career path or interests in mind. Workers get moved all the time without being asked or consulted. 4 managers in 18 months is ridiculously common. Workers moving to groups just to fill a spot. Managers consider workers, checkers on a checkerboard. Moved around at their discretion. Eventually your year-end review will say that you have limited business expertise but have worked at USB for years. They disrespect how long it takes to fully learn any part of the business. No interest in growing SMEs. Most have never actually worked for a living.

Decades ago when they had to actually work for a living, everything was breasy and easy. They became experts in days, in their minds.

Once these old managers receive their golden ticket, USB can move ahead building a better team. USB is so progressive, except when it comes to their management team. No young people with new ideas.

This exact same thing happened to me. Two people actually. My immediate manager and his boss. I had FOUR different managers in 18 months. This new guy gets hired and immediately his mission became criticizing my work and creating a Performance Improvement Plan. Clearly I was too expensive and they wanted me out. I found a job in 2 weeks and I quit in his face. He looked surprised and I told him to go f himself as soon as I saw my PTO balance deposited in my account.

Leave the company. You do not deserve to be treated this way.

You might want to step back and reassess. Are the expectations clear of what is to be performed in your position? Or is the manager very vague? If I were you I would confirm each item you feel might be suspect to criticism so that you have a clear understanding. And yes people leave managers all the time, but you have to do your part in making sure that it’s not a misunderstanding and you are following the rules of engagement.
