Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

To much infighting and bad behavior

How can we survive with so much drama going on, the restructuring has really brought the tension out. The former department managers are being awful right now and are not taking things well at all. Don’t they realize it was just a formality, a title change at best they are being such babies about it and don’t get me started on the few leads who retroactively want that 2 dollar raise like wtf dude, be happy You still have a job. Now the former department manager are shrugging off their responsibilities and don’t want to engage with the booksellers when it comes to work. If your that upset with the situation quit and spare use the nonsense some of us are still trying to perform.

“Expert” Booksellers?!
No such thing anymore !
Another example of trying to making themselves sound self important, in a world that’s already labeled them “not essential “.

Flipping burgers- ESSENTIAL job.
Selling books and memberships- NOT !

Middle management is more responsible, their behavior effects the booksellers more than upper management. Upper management, store and asm are to trusting of their expert booksellers (former dep managers) It’s hard to speak truth to power because of it and let’s face it this place seems to attract some strange personalities and they don’t hire very well so the culture is not that great to begin with. Laying off the lead# was the last buffer to the toxic management culture. They are trying to fix it “flatten the field” but it does not address the fact they have bad actors in those positions who need to be let go.

Who do you hold responsible for making your store and this company the worst place to work?

Exactly what these other threads have been saying for months/ years now !
The self entitlement these Mgrs , ASM, Merch , etc. have had all this time !
It’s a NON ESSENTIAL retail job. You’re NO BETTER than the fast food worker ( deemed essential!) or the ditch digger.
Buying expensive books is a luxury! All cities have libraries! You are NOT important.Get over yourselves!
