Thread regarding Sears layoffs

What will be the count after the current round of closings complete?

It's nigh impossible to sift through the umpteen posts of trolling and misinformation surrounding this. I figure that anyone talking of the future or other nonsense is trolling, extraordinarily stupid, and almost certainly both.

It's hard to believe Kenmore appliances the company can't deliver has any remaining value to the bottom line, The lone store in our area doesn't get any merch outside of mattresses (the two Craftsman aisles have a pitiful selection), and multiple stores that have been closed for years are in sorry shape in empty malls that probably don't even get a tenth of the foot traffic of their heyday. I peeked in one that's currently being used as a vaccination center, and it would probably cost a metric ton of cash to get up to code. There was a lot of black stuff which I'm 90% sure is mold. It's hard to believe that these will sell to raise cash when there are so many good spaces available during the pandemic.

Are there any well stocked Sears stores that are still profitable and doing business like it's still 2010? It would be nice to make a nostalgic final pilgrimage before the end if there's one somewhere within several hundred miles, because it's now a failed company in every conceivable way.

We are not closing because we are the #1 Home Services provider in the nation. We have the best techs and most advanced support any other company can offer.

Twenty–two Kmarts

There ARE currently not there's currently (plural not singular). Also there ARE 21 Kmarts not closing, not 22. Brooklyn is a Kmart department within a Sears store, not a full–line stand–alone Kmart store. So that location is counted once, in the Sears count. The 5 remaining Kmarts in NY state are White Plains, Bridgehampton, Manhattan, Bronx & Bronx.

There's nothing on May 6 Or 4. It is fake trolling.

There's currently 22 remaining Kmarts that have not yet announced that they're closing.

8 Kmarts will be left after the May 6th bombardment.

  1. .. from an all–time high of 2,323. Incredible.

That is utterly meaningless, because that refers to a fictitious "future closing list" that some troll just pulled out of his buttocks. I wouldn't put ANY stock into that, because it is simply false and made–up.

@gri+1azse7Dy As you mentioned, your counts don't include Sears Hometowns, which are, by definition, small–format Sears.

Don't short–change TransformCo by saying its a failed company in every conceivable way! Its failed in every inconceivable way also!

The count will never be accurate. Eddie uses closed HTS locations addresses as Service locations. WHY?

The only thing we can say for sure right now is what is currently open, and what is currently liquidating.

Sears:
Full-size, non-liquidating: 28 (27 in 13 US states, 1 in Puerto Rico)
Small-format, non-liquidating: 8 (7 in US states, 1 in Puerto Rico)
Full-size, currently liquidating: 8 (all in US states)

Kmart:
Non-liquidating: 21 (15 in 6 US states, 1 in Puerto Rico, 4 in US Virgin Islands, 1 in Guam)
Liquidating: 3 (all in US states)

If new closings are announced, subtract them from these totals.

If you are referring to the other thread, someone wrote this if the announcement that Kmart stores next week are closing is true. No clue on Sears stores though:

"If this turns out to be accurate (big if), it would reduce Kmart to three stores in New York City, one in New Jersey, one in Florida, one in California, and one in Puerto Rico."

The Hato Rey (PR) Sears looks like a Lord & Taylor (pre–bankruptcy), AND that mall has another separate Sears 2–story location just for hardware/appliances (in addition to an Auto Center outside the mall.)

The Sears with the Kmart store does very well from what I hear.
