Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Are they not researching or what?

I wonder what it is like to be a new employee now at Follett... I can see how this company can be a good starting point for young people with no experience or very little experience, but I don't understand those people who come here from companies that are in many ways better than Follett. I don’t think people do enough research about the company or look for information in the wrong places.

Unfortunately for Follett, they get on-the job research and don't seem to last long. Both of the Illinois stores that are hiring managers just hired mangers less than a year ago. For at least one of those stores, Follett had to pay a stipend for them to come out here and get a hotel room, food, etc, so I'm sure it seems like a great place at first, and then they cut payroll, give you more work, and don't train you.

The sad thing is that it is just more work for the long-term people. At one of the stores, it is just an ASM and a bunch of people who started in March. So she's probably working 6 days a week with half the money that a SM would make, and then they'll tell her she doesn't have enough experience.

When you're in desperation of looking for a job, the last thing you're going to do is look at the reviews especially if you've been in a job market for several months. As sucky as it sounds, if you get an offer you're better off taking it at a bad job than not taking any offer at all is putting food on the table as a priority.

The company, for years now, has posted shill reviews of itself on glassdoor.com. The past two years the company reviews (very easy to spot) are aimed at students and entry level workers. Great First Job. Great Work Home balance. The fake review's ratings are much higher than what's written, too. This keeps the company well above 3 stars.

If you haven't completed your review of this abomination of a company, you may do it today. www.glassdoor.com. It's anonymous.

I think at this point, people are willing to take (or stay in) any job they can get.
