Thread regarding Follett layoffs

I'm so tired

I don’t believe I’ve ever been as tired as I’ve been lately in the many years I’ve been here.
I don't know if anyone else feels like me, exhausted to the limit (?), but I really feel like I need months of rest....
I no longer have the motivation to work, and I still have to be here because I haven’t found a new job. What a horrible feeling.

Business plan is to be revealed on a Thursday, May 6. Then R will celebrate some 'wins' (which truthfully only they came out of winning, the 'be grateful you have work you lazy poor person!' mindset will still be trotted out for the rest of us, I'm sure.) The difference here is, Operation Overlord, despite many setbacks, was ultimately a giant success. Rest assured whatever creature from the toilet they drag up will fall apart like the offal it is.

You can also control how much you work. Do as little a possible until you can escape. Collect your paycheck. It's not like they threw money at you for working during a pandemic. While the big shots pat themselves on the back on for how well THEY managed during the crisis.
BTW what happened with the Business Unit game plan going forward by TL and BF?

If working for a poor company in a job without any upside (for the past 10 years) has produced results you don't like, why continue the behavior? You know ONE thing for certain, follett hasn't produced for you. Control what you can. You control where you work. You can't control follett.

@1pok+1ayMyKa2 I think what he/she is trying to say is it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to move from one dead end job to another dead end job. I would imagine the OP is looking for a job that has actual growth, upward movement (from a company that gives a sh-t about its people) BUT one where you don't have to deal with the usual every day customer (good luck on that front, by the way - if you find one let me know).

My problem, and it is my own personal problem, is trying to figure out what I want to do next. When I look at Indeed I see several open positions for an Amazon delivery driver making anywhere from $15–$19 an hour. While that looks good since it's paying more than what I'm currently making, it's essentially, as far as I can tell, a dead end job. Aside from that, I've seen a handful of store manager positions for different retailers. At that point, I ask myself if I really want to stay in retail – not that kind of retail i.e. Target, Wal–Mart, absolutely anywhere where you have to deal with Black Friday or Christmas shopping. He–l, I'm not even sure I want to be in charge of people anymore. Kind of limits the options.

In another line of work and at a much better company I had a highly skilled technical colleague. His professional peers warned him that the company was not of substantial stature enough to be listed on his resume (CV, whatever you want to call it). He was support some light weight technology at a small company. The rest of his resume was loaded with rock star companies and roles.
My point is, follett is hurting your professional marketability(in addition to hurting you bank account, your morale, you feeling of accomplishment and self worth).
Network. Take a job anywhere else.

It's beyond exhaustion, at this point. Every day I absolutely dread going in to the store. What new frustration and demoralization will each day bring? Everyone wants more –– the school wants more, students want more, parents want more, home office wants more –– but we have nothing left to give. We have no staff, no support systems, nothing. I don't see how this is going to be sustainable for much longer. Something is going to have to give.

I’m tired too friend! Something doesn’t sit right with me about working for Follett. I’m at a small store but my workload isn’t that much. It’s the lack of interaction with employees (I don’t have any), customers, and the feeling of lack of purpose. More and more professors are using OER, students don’t shop the store. It drains you when you come in day after day, reach out, try to drum up business and programs and get next to nothing for your efforts. Hang in there and keep your eyes open.

I know how you feel. I’ve been disrespected over and over at Follett. I ashamed of my failure but know somewhere better would have different results. Unfortunately after months on the job market I’m not getting any bites. Tired is a good description.

I understand exactly how you feel. Payroll was cut to the bone but we still cranked out thousands of online orders. My RM is very stingy with any positive reinforcement or even comments. MIA actually describes the situation appropriately. And now that the company has seen how much we can all do under pressure, that is going to be the new norm. I know that it's a business and the bottom line is king. But I (foolishly perhaps) still care about the students and professors at my school and do not see them in terms of $$$ signs. I am actively seeking alternate employment and have 2 interviews next week. Life is too short as last year has taught us, if you are not enjoying your job, maybe it is time to find something better.

While it is terrible to read that you are experiencing this; I am happy to see that I am not the only one.
This year has done nothing but drain all of us. And if you’re in a small store, much like I am, I can only agree with how cr–––y it’s been coming in and doing the same ol routine everyday.
I will say, you are doing a great job still, and don’t give up hope. Prioritize your well being. Close up shop and talk a walk for a second.
