The 9 box is a double axis chart, where one axis is an employee's performance and the other is the employee's potential (as assessed by their manager).
Each axis has a low, medium, and high rating which forms a box of 9 squares (like a rubik's cube). A high performing and high potential employee would be plotted in the upper right box and a low performing low potential employee would be plotted in the lower left.
While not always the case, generally Inconsistent/Expected/Better-than-Expected ratings are associated with Low/Medium/High performance. Meanwhile employees who are a good fit for their current role would be low potential for promotion, medium potential would be their manager sees them getting promoted one level in a given time period, and high potential would be seeing them getting promoted two more levels.
Often employees exhibit skills beyond those associated with their current role, which builds confidence they would be successful if promoted to the next level.
Pls someone explain what is the 9 box?????
Please make sure you inquire about your perceived worth to the company based on your 9 box rating.
True - Band E and above with lower performance using 9 box are getting VTO - voluntold
I'm wondering how they can rate us and not provide any way to see it or a way to comment. I'd say they made a mistake in revealing this and I will be asking about it next time I speak to my leadershi
Can you explain what "ratings behind the ratings" means? I am trying to decide whether to take this offer or not? All my reviews were also Expected overall.
What is this 9 box?
I learned about 9 box when offered vto. Didn’t know there were ratings behind the ratings or that mine were negative. Led to believe my performance was great but labeled “expected’ due to bell curve. No matter…. I will take the money and go.
Where did you get the 9 box information? That was not shared with people offered the SSP?
Packages were offered to bonus levels who were rated in the lower 3 of the nine–box for 3 of the last 5 years.
Everyone being offered vto has already received notice of it. There are no other vtos currently planned.
Absolutely this is happening. Attorneys band E and higher at SCO and other band E and up employees are being offered a VTO.It is quite real.
You literally have no clue what you're talking about and clearly NOT in BAND E and above since this was offered to over 800 people. Nobody is fear mongering. It is an actual thing that was extended to people and they have until MAY 10th to decide.
I'm convinced there are people who frequent this board with the sole intent to spread lies and fearmonger.
The answer is "no". They already told us.
YES. SCO is offering VTO to many Band E attorneys and above. Nice severance package offered. 6 to 12 months.
No we're hiring like crazy
