Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Those who recently quit

If you're still reading this, I have a question. When you gave your two weeks notice, did your manager expect you to stay on for two more weeks or were you asked to leave immediately? It's not that important if I stay on for those two weeks, but if I'm not expected to I'd rather set my new job start date earlier.

I would clean up your computer prior to giving notice (pics, contacts, etc.) in case they walk you out the same day.

if you get hired by a competitor, it's best to not say so. you're not required by law to give two weeks. you're not required by law to tell them where you're going or why. giving reasons for why you're quitting, need a day off etc has been normalized, but it shouldn't be. they need to know wheb you're leaving and that is it.

Give 2 weeks in your letter because it’s the proper etiquette... but generally the day you resign is your last day.

Also, know that they’ll terminate your medical benefits that day as well. You’ll get option for COBRA, but I happened to have an appointment the week after I resigned between then and the start of my new job and it was a headache paying the COBRA, back–dating, then cancelling when I got coverage from my new job.

In 20 years, I’ve never seen anyone allowed to stay the two weeks. In most of home office, you’ll be paid and your last day will be the end of your notice, but you won’t be allowed back in the building.

If you’re going to a competitor, you’ll be walked out the same day by security, sometimes without a chance to pack your personal belongings from your desk.

If you have work to transition, you may be allowed to stay a few days to do that.

Like the other responder said, it depends on who your new employer is. They only care if it’s another insurance company.

But remember– you are not required to give two weeks. It’s generally the right thing to do, sure, but Allstate doesn’t seem to care that much about the right thing.

If they find out you were hired at a competitor, you will be released immediately. I wouldn't say where I am going.
