Does anyone remember when Xerox was not cutting jobs or laying off ? How long has it been ?

Beginning in the 80’s worked in various manufacturing support jobs. Seems we had
layoffs every two to three years like clockwork..all the way through to today .
Family and friends got tired of asking how things were going at work as my standard reply,” I was hoping to avoid a lay–off.”

LOL, I joined in 1981, and there was a huge layoff that happened within a month or two. There have been times with lots of layoffs, times with few. The only difference I see is that offering voluntary separation used to be standard prior to involuntary layoffs (at least in my area of the US), but now voluntaries have disappeared.

I was there since late 90s and survived 2–3 rounds of layoffs per year. It’s never been any other way. You cannot cut your way to profitability and that’s the only lever they knew how to pull. All those well educated UR MBA execs 🙄. Wash rinse repeat. What’s the definition of insanity? Back in 2009 I remember my manager telling me he thought we had until 2017 before things started to quickly fall apart and he was 💯 correct.
