Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Does anyone have a good manager?

I get really annoyed when I see the manager trying to look all important, while in reality he has no qualities at all that one would expect from him.
Organizational awareness – zero.
Communication skills – zero.
Problem solving – zero.
Integrity, emphaty... these are all unknown to him.
A friend who works at another location also says she has a manager who doesn’t have any of the qualities that managers should have. I wish someone would say that there are good managers here as well.

It’s retail, anyone with critical thinking abilities can thrive. But that being said doing the bare minimum and keeping your head down is how you advance in companies like this. No one wants to promote someone who could possibly take their job from them some day. Welcome to corporate America, don’t work hard work smart.

I would say it depends on where they are at in their career. Are they young and learning?
I am blessed to have been around and have had amazing mentors and store managers who trained me the right way and helped me mold my career around the fact that people come first. My teams are everything to me. Sometimes I feel I communicate to much! I am only as talented as the teams I manage and learn from everyday. You have to have a mix of respect, humanity and vulnerability with your people to be successful. There are Not many of us left, that is for sure.

My question is, why do we even need managers?
