Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Most current Allstate applicants are former laid off employees.

I assist 4 different areas with new hire applications, interviews, and education. The vast majority of the hundreds of applications I sift through a week are former voluntary resignations where they are rehirable and employees laid off last year from Allstate. Tenures rage from just a few years with Allstate to 30+ years. Some have had a job either with a competitor or outside of insurance since their prior departure with Allstate.

I am actually surprised with how unprofessionally and poorly last year's layoffs were done and the now tainted reputation Allstate has regarding employee treatment and business process that this many people want to come back in any capacity. Is the job market really still that bad in most areas where people have no choice to come back or are things not as green elsewhere as people want to think? Honestly curious about this as I am thinking of looking elsewhere myself but my particular job is not the nightmare of other areas of the company and might not bother for now if any of the above is the case. Thanks for any feedback.

That’s just desperation due to lack of options

If you’re hired back within a year’s time you get your seniority back with Allstate

An old adage comes to mind. Familiarity breeds acceptance. Some people may not have the energy or the years left to start new with another company. I’m not one of those people and it will be a cold day when I return. Remember the internal transition people are encouraging this, too.

Allstate is very flawed but so is corporate america now. If you can find something better of course take it but honestly there aren't many better paying jobs with as many pto days. Before someone says there are lots of better paying jobs you need a degree or certification for other jobs. I made $45,000 and wasn't a manager. That's rare today
