The announcement that Mr. Howdy himself is finally leaving is the best news to come from COP in a long time. While his replacement might be no better, it would be hard to find anyone who could do more damage to an IT organization than he did over the last 9 years. The singular focus on the "next great thing" at the expense of keeping our infrastructure healthy and running at optimum performance has caused virtually every end user to consider the letters "IT" as the equivalent of a four-letter word. The amount of overall system downtime we have in a year isn't measured in minutes or even hours, but DAYS. It's shameful that he never seemed to care about any outage just as long as it didn't impact the nextgenERP or EDT or evolve initiatives.
Maybe the new CIO will actually hold people in leadership accountable for the systems and functions they own instead of allowing the endless game of finger pointing to continue that permeated his tenure almost from day 1.
His last day can't come soon enough.
