@1zbx Yess I've heard that many times by Project Executives. It must be something they learned at EM management school. "Hope is not a business strategy". Hahaha I they had been "hoping" for a lot and proved the adage right.

Certain groups do have a different distribution. BAR and planners for example can all be weighted as HiPos with RSUs and all the swag.

Worst Upstream people (remember the jerks from the old Development Company and URC) went to expat assignments to fancy places like The Netherlands, France, UK etc. Fire them all.

These people are like d0gs. Never there to give anything useful but to take.

Is that factual or a joke? Serious question. I knew there was a secret “alternative” ranking bucket structure (where they can load the Outstanding and Excellent buckets with more than the standard structure while reducing the bottom buckets) which could be selected for certain rank groups, but was not privy to what it looks like. That certainly sounds like it might be it. I’m sure the general population would be thrilled to know more about this, and where it is being used, LOL.

I remember when I was first hired my assigned mentor told me never to say “I hope” when describing what I was going to do. I’m surprised to see an executive say it. Obviously his hoping didn’t work.

Must have missed it while the expats were busy bouncing back and forth between Singapore and The Netherlands, undoubtedly with plenty of long weekends mixed in for relaxation...

"Move fast, light touch".... all ways to increase risk without sufficient mitigation.

It’s ok though as the rest of the Corp is 8% PIP this year Deepwater Global Projects is only 3% because we are the face of the company and they can’t replace us!

Everyone I knew predicted this would be the outcome of the light touch strategy and letting SBM do whatever they wanted. Look at how the contracts were setup. Total joke. Anyone technical at the time saw the writing on the wall and is not surprised by what is happening.

One thing we can agree on is whoever came up with the light touch idea should be gone but so should those who just nodded heads yes. Where were the chiefs? Where were the technical leaders to push back? Has the power balance swung so far that GP can just tell the function too bad this is how we are doing it?

From what I observed everyone was bragging up the light touch philosophy but I saw just as many expats going to Rotterdam and business trips to Rotterdam. What were all these people doing? Was the project team really so much smaller than normal? From what I observed light touch just meant the project team didn’t work very hard. I’d see the people at the hotel waking up late and coming back early working short days.

No one is happy about it in GP... Original VP forced out.

And, it's a shining example of when GP has minimal oversight to the EPC.

No offense, but you attacking an individual team for faults in strategy at a SLT level to have this be "light touch", or hands off, is childish.

This does continue to be an example of where our executive level is failing to make the right decisions.

But isn’t this a shining example of GP project delivery? While UOG ops is struggling, GP is partying hard over their successful startup.

Management was quite clear to the Destiny team that schedule trumped all else and that they were to let the EPC run the show.

This is what you get when you prioritize those to a team.

The VP for that section was already let go / retired. Not sure how far you go in the org when the team is doing exactly what was asked about.

Missed at Factory Acceptance Testing because of schedule focus not reliability priority.

Liza Destiny team was handpicked Best and Brightest. Maybe the selector only used the results from the d–b ranking system

This project is good example of why people dont like expats. Weve had team in Amsterdam and Singapore for years and they dropped the ball at f-t not picking up these issues by just relying on the Suppliers reports and not digging in with authority. They had hoped problems would make it past year one and drop off the radar and become Operations problem. Now they got caught with their pants down. With help like that......????

Failed project. Not impressing anyone in Guyana that is for sure. No wonder the Qataris are kicking employees out and replacing with contractors.

Who ran the project team? Who was I. Charge of the compressors? Who sat on the review teams? Time to show some accountability and fire the real NSIs not just the people who aren’t related to or friends with the right people.
