Career Growth at IBM

Band 7, 2 YOE here

Stressed, overworked, and it seems like executive leadership keep changing the direction every week. Is there any hope for a long term career here or should I just volunteer for the next RA?

Ideally, look at companies with high growth year to year, for the last few years. Can be pre or post IPO.

You got it OP, no point to waste your time at IBM. You are young, you deserve better.

OP here. Thanks for response. If anyone cares, I work with a bunch of B10 and D's that have their heads up there as–s in CHQ. Their best skill is delegation and giving themselves f-t bonuses. Time to start looking at some pre-IPO companies I guess.

After I left IBM, I realized IBM is more irrelevant than I thought.

My new coworkers talked about plenty of other leading tech companies. When ginni stepped down, none of my colleagues had heard the news nor did they care. IBM is no longer a leading tech player.

Get out NOW!!! Like the others have said, find a company that is growing. IBM had been promising growth for the past 7+ years and have delivered a whopping 1% growth in ONE QUARTER!!!! The executives are id--ts and full of greed. Thomas Watson would fire them all.

"If you've only been here for 2 years, you probably won't get RA'd, especially if you're a new grad."

Totally wrong... IBM hires new grads or young people so they can get laid off along the old guys... this is an IBM tactic to avoid age discrimination. Wake up!!!

If you've only been here for 2 years, you probably won't get RA'd, especially if you're a new grad. There's lots of companies which value your skills and will pay more now that you've got some experience.

IBM has been in decline for years, so it’s not surprising employees are overworked and stressed.

Start looking for a company that is growing.

Don't wait till your hair falls down. Wait longer, you might get cancer - without even smoking 2 packs a day.

I would look elsewhere if I were you, there isn’t much future at IBM these days.

Start saying "no" to lot of work items and don't work more than 8 hours.

Then start preparing to leave, it'll take few months. Quitting before getting a new job is shooting yourself in the foot.

RA or IBM will somehow RA 70% of remaining population in next 2 years ( including sell offs ) . They need to reduce number of employees below 100K
