Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Open letter on Allstate

When I hired into Allstate decades ago it was a fantastic mutual company. Over time there were changes and bumps but it was still a great place to work. I was proud to work for Allstate. But over many years things have slowly deteriorated and with the arrival of the current executives and "Transformative Growth" this slide has accelerated especially in the last two years leaving many of my very hard working peers left me sad, shocked and disgusted. Exempt employees are now working 60-80 hour workweeks illegally (shades of CA? anyone), people are suffering from stress levels resulting in real physical and mental issues that are work related (good luck proving it but we all know its t), pay is cut, capped, redfined, "bands" and compensation are misrepresented, employees are fired because of "personality tests" that the chief executive jokes about reading his own results, but us grunt workers arent allowed to see, people are actually fired clearly because of age/pay grade, employees are asked to return severance and come back at a reduced salary because the company underestimated its layoff liabilities (and hey we will overlook the personality test score that was important enough to justify firing you), pensions changed to defined contribution (next stop will be to eliminate altogether), pto changed to accrued hours (yes we can draw it before accrual, im waiting to see what happens in next two Open Enrollments when we shift to full accrual would you like to say it wont happen?), employees who care are working themselves to de–hwith second rate software that locks up, is mediocre at best, with no IT support (its DIY!), no job training, no support (except from peers), managers who have no power and are ineffective placeholders who parrot what they are told to do, barometers that people are afraid to answer truthfully because the disclaimer says this is not anonymous its 'confidential but a 3rd party will have access to the data" you dont need to be genius to know its a run around and this, or any, 3rd party will be able to see who says whatever is saved, empty slogans, employees asked to contribute their own dollars and time but to do it in the name of allstate (not on their own because the company wont get the publicity), emails telling me who to vote for and what proposals to support that favor company profits regardless of my own personal views, special interests promoted because Allstate "cares" but in reality for protecton against EEOC claims for wrongful termination, and to attract market segments, forced seminars where Im told to be happy or else, bossware that continually monitors me (truthfully, I dont mind i work my tail off but what concerns me is all the other stuff makes me question the motives and ethics of the people monitoring thru the bossware), a company that says Transparency is a corporate value which apparently means everything you do is transparent thru bossware, but everything above your pay grade is as transparent as a black h–eand questions to managers are meant with "I dont know" because they probably dont, "town halls" with staged questions and softballs, a leader who refers to my African-American, Hispanic, or la–nAmerican colleagues as "the bl—sand browns" in a town hall, a company that is public traded but is afraid of anything being recorded, and HR department that hides behind FAQs and webpages and has a phone line that puts you on hold for hours then disconnects, a company that violates GAAP cooks the books and creates 1 work week in a quarter with zero employee payroll liability (which is then spread out as people are fired, are let go, or quit) and sells it as legitimate, security employees who post to this board threatening employees for Protected Concerted Activity and legal dept employees who scour the linked pages of employees (you do know h-Legal, linked records who views your page?), a company that capped pto and limited all pto for new employees, a "rebanding" that was random and so without uniformity, with new pay grades that overlapped so much, that some departments reversed it and others were forced to proceed in a state that makes promotion a change in title only and is completely untethered from compensation, abolition of any employee incentives and rampant red circling other than gift cards that wont pay for a cup of coffee, and raises, ah yes raises: if you are fortunate to get one it will be less than the annual cost of living and your pay decreases each year you stay, and each free hour you work (if exempt) and good luck getting overtime (if non-exempt).

So, what have I posted above that is untrue. Please tell me and tell me what its untrue.

And yes I know the old tired "quit go somewhere else blah blah" I am trying trust me.Do you think people with families can just up and quit because they are treated like garbage? I am not "whining" btw so you retirees who are bored $hitless and actually monitor this board, and pro-company current kool aid drinkers put a sock in it. All I did is list what I have seen over the course of a two decade career with the company. The stock is soaring so rejoice stockholders but id collect ur dividends and dont hold, because this company has been gutted and i assure you market share will not turn around, policyholders? do you like self-service claims and talking to people in India? then keep paying those premiums because you will love what Allstate has in store for future.

So any takers? What did I post that is a "fabrication" and "fear mongering". Enlighten me please.

Allstate was never a mutual company. It was a private company owned by Sears. A long time employee should know the difference between a mutual, private or public insurer.

Aside from the dire need of paragraphs and a set of tired eyes I cannot disagree to any of this. Well said.

THIS is why Allstate will not exist as an independent company in 5 years. And personally I think it is all by design.

They don't care.

This is 2021, not the early 90s, gramps.

They have technology and more efficient companies to compete against. They can't operate like they did before customers could get instant quotes from every company at the click of a mouse.

Well Done: 24 year employee agrees with all that you said. Sad but true from top to bottom. Destruction in the name of progress what a pity for the workers to go through this madness. The Jurassic Park of insurance companies could never break free from their roots Sears and Roebuck. The noise in the background is all the other companies passing us by. Good luck and soon to be good riddance.
