Does that mean someone is a talented and great employee with great prospects? Of course not. It may have meant it once, but not anymore.
Are you also annoyed when you see some people who are promoted and who don't deserve it at all? I don’t envy anyone, but the promotions have become too unfair in my opinion

A promotion to an executive position can mean higher compensation through stock based pay and bonus. This boosts pensionable earnings and ensures huge retirement payouts. Yes, there have been many promotions last year to executive positions. Considering that senior IOL managers are simply ExxonMobil mannequins and adding very little value, it appears that the corrupt have closed ranks to enrich themselves while Darren and his dummies are begging and borrowing to pay $14G dividends. Canada is not even part of ExxonMobil's future growth strategy having lost out to Guyana and Brazil. Talk about an Everest size ego.
Sadly, I echo your sentiments and feel that merit based promotions are history. Witnessed a useless and toxic person promoted as a team lead in Upstream last year, because he was buds with the previous team lead and a good presentation jockey. Manipulates, technically useless, habitually lies, withholds information and plays many more dirty tricks to shine bright without contributing anything on own. Lot more talented, good mannered people on the floor were overlooked to make this clown a team lead. Still can't believe that.
