Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Leave when you can

I was laid off in Dec and it’s the best thing that ever happened to me. I worked at Exxon for about 2 years - I drank the koolaid at first but I slowly realized just how terrible this company is (environmentally, ethically, you name it). I feel such a sense of relief and happiness since being out of the toxicity of ExxonMobil. Take this as a sign to look for a new job now. You won’t regret it. Find a company that actually cares about their people.

I work for a nonprofit but still make a good living relative to xom so I disagree it's all about money.

OP, I’m sure you were thinking about ethics collecting that fat paycheck and benefits the company gave you. The funny thing is that I agree with you that Darren is a snake in the grass but don’t start virtue signaling about how you want to work for an Ethical company. How are you gonna pay for that new Audi you bought with your blood money.

I disagree that it’s just about making money. There are other dimensions to make an organization successful. For instance, we obviously know high pay doesn’t equal a happy workforce. An unhappy workforce leads to underperforming people. Layer on top the hunger games and we’ve got a recipe for disaster. When the pursuit only considers money as the basis for success, companies lose sight of their vision. They become careless. They f*ck their employees. They stop focusing on the customer. These mistakes eventually catch up, and for EM, they definitely have.

"Find a company that cares about their people". It's a job guys, every company's goal is to make money, and everyone is replaceable. These are not charity jobs (though it sure seemed like it with some of the older folks who were coasting along collecting paychecks). If you want to feel cared for, become a valuable asset to the company that makes them money. The guys that truly aren't replaceable, are very well paid collecting bonuses and rsu's in the high CL's.

Plenty of people on previous posts talked about moving to amazon, do you think amazon cares about its employees? They've been pip'ing 8-10% every year.

XOM isn't perfect by any means, but there will be politics, "unfair" promotions, and other annoying things at any company.

It’s a dying company. You learned from working for a huge corporation how to do things right after seeing so much wrong they do. Culture is so important and that is the reason for the fall of this giant.
