Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Spent the last year working virtual. Can they make us return to the office if we don’t want to?

Luckily they closed our local office. I’m making 6 figures sitting at home in my office...I can’t justify getting another job until they show me the door. It’s too easy.

Honestly, despite xerox falling apart for all sorts of other reasons, from what I’ve seen (direct, can’t speak for outside of the US or XBS) they’ve been very aggressive about distancing and safety guidelines for covid. I can’t say the same for friends and colleagues that have moved on to other businesses that pushed people back without much reason other than so they could have a manager look over their shoulder again.

YES. All of the EC management and their admins have gone in this whole time wearing masks so I know all employees will have to also.

I work in operations, so my coworkers and I have had to come in to work everyday throughout the pandemic. (You can't do warehouse work remotely!) We did what we were supposed to do: social distance, wear masks, wash our hands, etc. And we've been ok. I'm even happier now that I'm getting the vaccine.a

Everyone looking for the angle. Yes they can certainly make it a condition of employment. The ‘I don’t wanna’ defense is going to get you nowhere.

In a company where everyone is looking over their shoulder this is not a solid way to keep your job.

Just ask someone who was required in office and not given the option to WFH?? See what they think...

If your kids are doing home school due to covid and as a protective parent, your manager should continue to work with you. Check your local regulations too.

  • Yes?

Unless they violate local regulations about covid then they have every right to expect you in office if they’re making accommodations that meet local regulations. Whether or not they will be flexible is going to depend on your location, team, and management.

Not speaking to the fairness of it, mind you, but that’s an entirely separate question. They can expect you to return or consider you to have quit. Your individual group or manager may allow more leeway, but that’s going to be discretionary.
