Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Engineer is a Four-Letter Word at Cenovus

Between January & March engineers took a significant hit at Husky/Cenovus. Despite being told the majority of the duplication was in Calgary, a significant number of Professional Engineers lost their jobs in Lloydminster, Grande Prairie, etc.

But yet groups like Downstream Capital Projects absorbed Project Controls, Cost Controls, Risk Analysts, Quality, etc. from other disbanded groups within the legacy organizations. This despite a smaller capital program going forward?

Engineers are a four letter word pretty much every where. They are entitled, mostly devoid of any scientific reasoning, and for the most part rely on software programs to do their work . No original thought, poor managers of people. A real engineer builds bridges and infrastructure, not designing holes in the ground to extract long buried carbon.
